This is a NO brainer in my books 700 hands down. Reason 710 CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. Plastic parts, plus they are ugley.

Plus they had alot of problems wiht the 710, I have personaly seen them at the range, were people couldnt get the bolt to clos, with factory amo, or couldnt get it to open back up after they shot it. I am a big fan of rimeington and the 700, but they messed up with the 710. JMO

This topic comes up a lot, and while I'd never buy a 710 myself (if for no other reason than they're not available left-handed), those who actually own them don't seem to be unhappy with the rifles.

On the other hand, resale value on them is close to zero, and since other rifles are available in the same price range (especially the Savage rifles, often on sale at Bass Pro or Cabela's for around $300), there's no real reason to buy a 710 that I can see.

Used .30-06 bolt-action rifles are very common, too, so you might cruise your local pawn shops. There's some good stuff floating around out there.

Hey, if you're looking for a .30-06, why not consider this one, being sold right here on the forum:

Beautiful wood stock, excellent Savage action. $300. Then you can add whatever scope you like.

(I have no financial interest in this; just playing matchmaker.)

I would also buy the 700 for all the reasons everyone else has given. It's better looking and would have more resale value, and you can find some deals in '06, .243, and .270 on combos that are way under $400 (Academy for one). That all being said, the 710 is still a good rifle. Rugged as can be and has a reputation for really good accuracy. Have a friend who bought one used in .280 and he loves it. One thing I don't like about it is the box magazine. Had a .22 with a box and because of the way I carried it I was always losing it somewhere on the ground. Never missed it until I'd already walked too far to find it again.

I own a 300 ultamag in a Rem 700 stainless synthetic, and love it. Besides it kicking like a mule it is great, that is the caliber kicking. The only thing that i find is the long action, it is a little on the long side compared to my browning 7mag. the good thing about it is that everyone i talk to loves them including myself and they all shoot great out of the box. Plus they cost less than your other name brands. one of the hotest cart. on the market right now is the 270 WSM and never count out the old faithful 7 MAG hope this has helped
