Has anyone ever done their own golf cart conversion? I'm thinking a lift and some taller tires to get the clearance up for starters. Might even add the second motor eventually.

My hubby did ours... added skid plate across the bottom, made bumpers for front and back, added rack on back. He did lift it, but I can't remember how.. He installed a couple switches too, for running a feeder that attaches to the back and for the front lights and rear light. BEFORE... AFTER...

I did a yahoo search and came up with places in TX to buy parts. web page I have built/helped build probably about 20 EZGO cart over the last 5-6 years. Started out building one for myself and then with friends and then built and sold a few. EZGO are the easiest IMO and have the most after market parts/parts dealers. It is a very eazy process to lift them. This is what I would do. 1. A Arms in the front 2. Blocks in the back 3. New shocks 4. Rims and tires 5. Stereo 6. Brush guard 7. 2 to 4 lights on brush guard 8. Cigarette lighter for spotlights etc... 9. Carbon Fiber dash so I would have locking glove boxes 10. 1 small (dome light type) light on each side under dash to light up your lap area but not be to bright. If 2 of us were doing it we could have the whole thing done in a couple nights. Let me know if you have any questions.

One more thing. A arms get real sqeaky, so you might want to go with something like this. web page

how much do you figure you'd have in it, for the cart and the conversion?? $$

that is what i am wondering as well.
is it a better option to buy an ezgo golf cart and then retrofit it like you describe above or just buy one that is already done up that way. around here most of the lifted carts seem to go for around 4,000 which seems high to me.
also, what about the batteries, i heard that you should install a heavier duty setup if you are putting the bigger tires on a cart.
thanks for the insight

i have never taken it in mud, my land is hilly, no mud, the hills slow it down, but it has never failed to climb one, nice and quiet, i only have 57 acres so i try not to make too much noise during the season
as best as i can remember cart $500 bed $250 tires and lift $400 new batteries $400

I paid $1,800.00 for a 2 year old gas EZGO and put another +/- $2,000.00 in to everything else.
The 2K included $500.00 in paint and another $275/300 in a back seat and upholstery. If I built one for deer camp then I would camo it myself and nix the back seat and upholstery. Also you wouldn't need chrome rims or A arms for deer camp.
Figure after the cost of the cart you could probably get away pretty cheep if you left it mostly stock.
I forgot to mention in my other post above that I also put a custom steering wheel and chrome steering column on the ones I built that you wouldn't need.
I bulit all gas carts, but I would do electric for deer camp due to gas being a lot louder. Remember if you buy a used electric one then you will probably have to replace the batteries and that can get costly.

We would usually ad between $500.00 and 1k in for labor when we sold them so 4k isn't that bad.
We never put heavy duty batteries in ours and didn't have a problem. However, we did ad an additional battery in some that the future owners wanted an amp for the stereo or a ton of lights etc...
Remember we were building ours for people to take to the desert or the dunes during dirtbike season or for the people that wanted to take them to their place at the lake or river. Basically people wanted them to shout look at my bling.
These resemble what we were building. web page

Ive got a 79 model EZ Go cart that was somebody project that wasnt finished. They added a lift and good tires, but the batteries were bad and the seat was gone and no brakes. Still no bad for free. I bought some used 6volts batteries from a place in Garland for 35 each w/exchange, and had tio replace the resitor assembly($45.00) and using some old boat seats I already had. So Im cruising the property now, It came with a charger and does fine, but if you have a large property you will need to keep on the charger nightly. I still need to camo it, but Ive only got around $250.00 in it. I havent fixed the brakes yet,(who needs brakes right) If I get time I will post some pics. Also if you need to find used batteries(w 6month warranty) Mr. Battery is the name of the place at Garland Rd and Jupiter.

Clint that looks sharp. Its similar to mine but looks to be a newer model. I removed the top because it was cracked. I think I like it open for easy shooting. Do those tires come with a lift kit, because I notice they are the same as I got and in other pics? Looks good though cant wait to paint mine up and finish the seats.
