Hunted two leases in Anderson county!
Saw more poachers than deer!!!! Lots of hogs though!

From what I experienced I would say it sucks! Not too many high fences out there because they will just get cut anyway!

Anderson Co has some monster bucks. It is not like south or west Texas though. That is selecting, not 'hunting'. You may go 4-5 times and not see any and then see a 160 class.

I prefer to see deer (not poachers) when I hunt.....thats why I choose to hunt out West! If being able to choose which deer I want to shoot (instead of taking what comes my way) makes me less of a hunter then I guess I am guilty as charged!

Poachers are a problem and we should each get a "Poacher Tag" with our license, however, we don't. I just find some joy in working and/or waiting to get a deer as opposed to when I go south or west and hunt 15 minutes and limit out. My opinion.

Well thats where me and you differ!
I dont go into the woods just to "limit out"!! I probaly could opening morning if I wanted to, but hunting is much more than just limiting out for me!
I love to video and take pictures while I am out there, and the places I hunted in Anderson did not offer too much of that!

Sooooo...If you are in an area that has decent deer numbers, you are a "selector" and not a hunter? Or.....if you work hard enough to have the opportunity to see deer every time out, you're a "selector" and not a hunter? Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm just saying that so many city 'hunters' now a days believe that if they don't see 25 deer within 10 minutes of the feeder going off it is a bad place to hunt. Sometimes you have to scout a place and work to kill a deer in east Texas.

Sometimes a bad place to hunt has nothing to do with the amount of deer on the place! Such was the case on the last Anderson county lease I was on! After pulling into camp and find 3 colored folks plundering through my camper with shotguns I decided it was time to get the heck out of the East Texas he11 hole we called a lease! Had the same problem on the other Anderson lease we were on too, so it was not a isolated incident!

Two years ago I had an overpriced lease in East Texas. Was given a key to the gate and told to keep it locked. Every time I showed up the gate was wide open. Almost every time I hunted we had someone come hauling down what was supposed to be a private road. Saw some deer every time. Mostly very scrawny does, one spike buck, and one good buck we never got a shot at. It wasn't even a hard decision to not go back the next year. If you do Anderson my .02 is don't spend over a few bucks an acre.
Searching the world over for the perfect Chile Relleno.

I grew up hunting in Henderson and Anderson County. There are some BIG BUCKS around there. Especially in the SW corner of the county around the Anderson/Freestone County lines. And if you're lucky enough to be by the river or catfish creek you will have a potentially good lease. Don't rely on feeders. They will get used to them and start hitting them hard, but if you want a big boy in that area, find you a nice Oak flat with lots of acorns. We never had any problems with poachers, but being from the area I know that they are plentiful in that neck of the woods.

That is where my blind and feeder are but I have more fun going in off season than deer season if you know what I mean. You can't even shoot a doe except with a permit even though our landowner has seen 15 at a time at the feeder! Guess we should call TPWD and get some permits. Most I have seen is 5 deer in a hunt and never a buck so far, just rubs. I hunt for free there. Lots of predators (yotes and cats and a mtn lion). Tons of pigs but never seen them. They shred the place at night. We are about 2 miles west of Palestine.

Plenty of good deer around that area. I hunt just north of there in Houston Co. Buddy of my brother shot a 143 class buck at our place a few years back, and that was before AR's.

I killed a 120 inch 10 point in 06 and a 137 inch 9 point in 2007. But we did get off our lease due to poachers.

I have lived here and hunted here my entire life and have never seen a poacher or have had my stuff messed with, if you get down in south east anderson county by where we hunt you will see lots of deer and some big ones
