Now, what I want to see Texas do or USFW to approve is allow us to take two resident Wood ducks in the September Teal season. Florida does. I don't know how the resident Wood Duck population is doing in Texas or if they are even counted, but if the reports/pictures on this forum indicate anything, you would think they are doing well enough.

I don't understand the canvasback issue...we've killed and seen more the last two seasons then what ive ever even seen in previous years. I have heard that their flyway has been shifting a little, so maybe thats why. I love those birds though, and wouldn't mind having to pass on them for a few years to keep them around.

John it seems like back in 85 you could shoot wood ducks in teal season. Might be wrong but I think I remember that cause I was a kid then and really wanted one

I went to Academy today and put my name on the waiting list for teal tags...it was such a hassel trying to find them last year.

I honestly don't know/remember. Though I was certainly duck hunting then, I was a fishing fanatic. In September I would have been fishing and not bothered with Teal season.

I guess I am out of the loop, but what the hell is this teal tag business?
As far as the Mallard hen issue goes. I have less problem with the 1 hen limit than I do with it being included in the Hunter's choice. That is what is bullsh!t. If I cut into a big group of Mallards and hit a hen, then I can't kill a Can or a Pintail?? Freakin stupid.
I don't mind the five duck limit, and I like the full season on the Cans/Pins, but having the Mallard hen in the Hunter's choice doesn't make any sense.

I really don't think teal tags are all that confusing, except for during the early season. Sometimes it's a little difficult to tell the difference between the gw drakes and hens so we're not sure which tag to use. I just wish they weren't so expensive.

I know what you mean, I am really excited to see the updates for this next year, I do hope logic prevails and they remove some of the confusion with the language and clarify some of the tag requirements and reduce the large margin of error that have placed on the shoulders of us hunters. I bet they do add canvasbacks to the tag required birds.

5 birds are fine with me... And actually for the "average" duck hunter...it is "good" to have an OOPS bird! Pintail hens get blasted all the time...and those low light mallard hen situations are more than common... There is "absolutely" no way to have a "no hen" limit... Furthermore... "wood duck" early season...(ain't happenin') at least for several years....(dam tennessee dude shot all the hens up) I think it would be cool to get a 10 day early "resident" canada season...(but that too is a ways off) interesting debate here... but I kinda hope they keep the hunters choice... do you think they will add the canvasback tag to the already confusing and moronic teal tag system? for all the good things the USFW and TPWD does things like this really make me question them.

I wish I could I hardly understand it myself. Let's just hope they do away with it this year, and they don't increase it by adding the canvasback to the requirement.

Well, maybe someone out there can and save my lazy arse the trouble of looking it up. I missed almost the entire season due to a hunting accident, and only shot a few ducks on the very last weekend. Guess I've been kinda out of the loop. I will add that any more freakin tags are going to make me go crazy. Eventually, Texas will come up with a damn tag for every species that swims, crawls, walks or flies.

It's really not difficult to use them...the real problem is finding the darn things. Academy and Wal-Mart never have them in stock.

Well with hunting season over it's pretty clear we are starting to run out of things to talk about...so it's back to the old standby teal tag joke. Surprised no one has gone with the "I shot such and such at lake X and no one was out there" ...the old I'm hunting but don't know it's out of season joke.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!
