I would like to know if anyone feeds protein in open troughs or round rubber feed buckets that you can get from tractor supply? I understand the moisture issues, but I am at the lease every other weekend. I am going to build a gravity protein feeder, but I would like to save some money and start feeding now. Any suggestions?

We have in one location, but those deer are eating it just about as soon as it hits the trough.

A little shower could end up being costly and you could get some B&C coons if the deer don't eat it quickly.... IMO I would put out minerals until the gravity feeder project is completed.

Wouldnt feed out of a trough, rain, coons, hogs...all can and will clean you out and make ya spend a lot of money. Stick with maybe some mineral blocks, alfalfa hay, something like that till you get your feeder built.
