I have not shot one but here is what I know about it. It is a Russian caliber. It is basicly the Russian version of the 5.56 NATO. The bullet is very long and narrow which means it is is going too tumble allot. It a very accuarate round allot more accuarte than the 7.62X39. Thats about all I know now I will talk to some guys at work tommarow and finde out more.

It was designed for the AK-74, but recently companies have started building AR-15 uppers that are chambered for it. You can get 20-round boxes of ammo for it at Academy for $8-9.

I have a WASR2 in 5.45x39.5. Very fun. Ammo used to be real cheap as well. I picked up 1080 rounds for $119 last year. You'll have trouble finding it for that now.

I had an AK-74 Tantaal side-folder that was a BLAST to shoot but was offered more for it than I could turn down. At the time 5.45 and 7.62 ammo was the same price at the Fort Worth gun show. Probably still is. I can't count that fast but I think it had the same cycle rate as my AR; about 600 rpm.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

i have a tantal. the surplus ammo you find is corrosive. mild recoil, fun round to shoot, varaible availability of ammunition. there is some new manufacture non corrosive out there but your gonna pay for it. the bullet does indeed tumble ( the 7N6 surplus round) in flesh but the damage isnt as dramatic as the internet wasnts it to be. its steel core but the steel is mild and wont penetrate some steel targets.
