I've got a question. I have a dpms 6.5 creedmore in a 26" bull barrel. I would like to cut the barrel down to 20". will this affect the gas system?

I'm sure it has a rifle length gas system and won't effect it.

Depends upon the gas port size.
If you want it shorter, have it cut and re-crowned. If it doesn't cycle well, drill the gas port one step larger, test again, repeat until you have a good functioning rifle.
