I think you can tell males from females the same way you do on sheep, make a horizontal peace sign with your right hand grab their tail with your left and poke under it with the peace sign, if the bottom finger of peace sign folds back that would be a male.

I dont know you, but Cody, I can tell from your post here and elsewhere about hogs, you dislike the little b%$#@rds!

I crack up every time someone talks about pigs, cause I know we are fixin to hear about kicking one in the face or throwin it at a road sign.

Funny stuff

Now...I don't mean to sound harsh...I don't hate ALL hogs.
Just the ones with those swishy little tails, and those flat noses with the two holes in the end. You know, the ones that root around looking for their food and oink or squeal....wait a minute...I do hate all of those sorry Fr's!

Please totally disregard this entire post!

Wait till they get up to about 7 or 8 pounds and then process them.

Cut the carcass up similar to a rabbit, season the meat, coat the pieces in flour and chicken fry them, the only way to eat baby oinker. JMO.

Right on there!

littlehuntinboy, I wouldn't worry about whats legal or illegal or TAHC. Hunt and kill em. These are pigs, not a whitetail. If a guy feels he needs to say something, he/she should send a private message. I hunt and trap em weekly and could care less about regulations when it comes to farmland being distroyed. So littlehuntinboy, to you I say this; disregard the haters. God put em here to eat. Some of these guys need to join P.E.T.A. Keep em, grow em, and eat em. I will take the heat for you.

the official just gave the proper info..no harping on the kids but honestly...just leave the kid alone...if I were to catch a couple baby pigs, i'd keep them, have the kids raise them, learn about them but also know they would be raised for food...great growing/learning lesson for ANY kid

I agree Maggie. And I wouldn't care if he was Rick Perry. Pigs are damaging the palce I hunt deer. Thats why I got off into deer hunting. Last night I counted 109 hogs in 3 pics on my cam. 70 acres. Imagine that. We're not catching under-sized white bass, or killing deer outta season.

Its a good project for the kid/kids to raise them up & also to butcher them out. I cant tell you how many kids I know of that think milk comes from the carton at the store, as do eggs, meat, etc...

109 hogs? I'm comin huntin at your place

As for the hogs. Its good for him to know its technically illegal. Have your fun raisin em, then have more fun eatin em, its just the circle of life

You can see WHY those regulations are in place. I wouldn't want my neighbor transporting hogs to our lease in OK. We don't have them there yet. As far as a junior hunter feeding a couple pigles...buzz off.

They will be wild like you would not believe in about 4 weeks. We have caught many, cut em and fed the out (all within the ranch they were captured) and ate them. At about 3 months put them on wheat and beer. Check with your local beer distributers and see if you can get their out of dates mix it with wheat allow it to sit and poor it to them. IT will put muscle and fat on them like you would not believe. Killing them is easy. They never tame. Enjoy them early it does not last long.

Man we have raised several up from babyhood.. The last one I acquired with some direction from Sig226fan.. We kept her for about 13 months, and then made sausage out of her..

But all this to say that we have tamed a few of them. They were not lap piggies, but they weren't terrified and squaling all the time either.. They liked to be scratched.. And welcomed the attention.
Our children know that if an animal does not offer a service, or protect the other livestock, at some point in its life it will be on the dinner table. All that to say that we get attached to all of them... And then natural progression takes over and we have a cleaning class.. Then we have cooking and eating class after that. LOL

I would think the prohibition on raising wild hogs has something to do with spreading disease into tame hogs or that they'll be sold to a slaughterhouse as tame hogs, later on, thus spreading disease into humans. Am I right?

As for not being able to tame them. I'm very doubtful of that since you can raise bobcats to be tame. (As we saw in an earlier thread.) Genetically, these ARE domestic pigs, right?
