With the season winding down I thought I would dedicate today's show to waterfowling. Kind of wrap-up for the 08-09 season.

Today's line-up includes:

John Devney, Senior VP Delta Waterfowl...this is a live interview. Anybody want a specific question asked let me hear it.

Jason Nash, Communications Manager of Black Cloud. He will tell ya why Black Cloud is so good ( or not so good in some opinions). I also asked him about Obama and how he thought the new administration will affect Ammo sales- he politely declined to answer.

Dave Morrison, Waterfowl Program Director of TDPW. Tells ya why you can and can't shoot specific #s of each species, Who decides this, The states role in determining bag limits and the overall feeling of Texas' waterfowl season.

Thought a few of ya may be interested...listen @ Amen900.com
4-5pm

I would love for you to ask the Delta director how important he believes it is to protect Bird nesting areas from predators, and then follow it up with why he believes other duck conservation groups do not understand the importance of it.

Then tell him Thanks from all of us Duck hunters.

Will do. I think that Delta is on the money with that philosophy.

I am really interested in the first and last one. Do you have a download (podcast) option too?

Sorry Ed,

Still working on that. I do record the show and I can always cut up the two interviews for you and send them via MP3.

Not my efforts.

I would just like all his listeners to understand the differences.

The follow up question will probably not get awnsered.

I was in my car on the way home and listened on the radio. I work in Paris and as long as I was around Paris I had a pretty good signal. I live south of there and just as soon as I got south of town I lost the signal. I'll have to catch it on a podcast or something.
I was able to hear John Devney talk about predator control in the brooding areas and found that very interesting. I did not no that predators had such an effect on hatch numbers. I've been wanting to join either Delta Waterfowl or DU. Some of the things John said really connected with me.

Join both...... None of us as one can do enough. None of the groups can do anything with out us.

Both groups do a lot for ducks. Never make the mistake of thinking that one group has the wrong intrest. They both want what is best for waterfowl.

Duck and Cable that's what I'll do, it makes sense. I'm thinking about buying some land that has about a 20 acre creek bottom attached to it. I'd like to turn that into a duck habitat. I here these folks have programs to help folks out that want to do that.

I can answer your question about why other organizations dont think its important...

Its not so much "not important" as it is effective. Removing predators is a never ending thing. If you remove a predator, there will always be another one that moves in to fill that niche.

Its a costly endevour (man hours, ammo etc) that never really ends. Do you really think you can remove every coyote, bobcat, raccoon, skunk, opposum, and snake without having new ones filter over fron surrounding areas?

Thats just one issue.

another is this... if you are managing the land for multiple use, not just ducks, removing predators can have adverse effects on the land. Lets say you have cattle on the property, and you successfully remove every predator. The rabbit population will skyrocket, and in some cases has been know to out compete cattle for food. dont beleive me? google it.

Before you jump all over me, I AM for predator removal. Im just answering your question why some arent.

I think with the rise in popularity of predator hunting around here, I'm seeing the effects of that. I have noticed lately that we have had a big jump in the rabbit population around here. I cant help but wonder...........????

That would be cool, I miss having an outdoor radio program to listen to. There were a few shows on the radio in the 90's that I listened to a lot. Barry Stoke's Outdoor Trails, and it seemed like the folks at Honey Hole had a radio show as well at one time. We had a local guy doing a show on 93.9 fm here locally and I really enjoyed that one as well. The show that Barry used to do really reved me up. I was a tournament fisherman "back in the day" and I would listen to him on the way to the lake. He would talk about bass fishing mostly, and by the time I arrived at the lake I was headed for I was fired up.
