Based on experience, what is your favorite .308 semi-automatic rifle. I'm going to buy one and would like to hear your stories. Let's say under $1500. Thanks, Jim

What are you wanting to do with it ?
You can get the H&K G3 style semi-autos in .308 for under $1000 . They are made by Cetme I think. There is a guy in the classifieds that has one for sale now.

I want something reliable, capable of long shots with the right glass. Hunting, punching paper...something more than my .243

What about recoil? Some are a easier on the shoulder than others. What do you think? I read somewhere that a Saiga AK style rifle in .308 was a formable weapon with lots of possiblities for customizing. Also under $1500.

None of the auto .308 rifles are going to have intolerable recoil. I would get something that has good barrel options and good optics mounting capabilities (ie AR platform or FNAR)

Don't count out the Rem. 750 Woodsmaster.

I saw a the new winchester and Benelli Semi-auto in a magazine review, but at $1000 and shooting 2.5-3.5" groups at 100, They are crazy!! I get 1.5" groups with the old remington 742 semi .30-06 with the remington core locs. I've heard some of the Browning bars shoot very good. A AR in .308 would be very nice and very accurate also.

For $1500, I would take a long, hard look at the FN AR. It seems pretty slick to me.

Well if you don't need the high capacity or the mean evil black guns... I am in love with Remington's Model 750.. It's accurate, compact, reliable, potent, and affordable...
Mine has bounced and jiggled for hundreds of miles on a four wheeler and thousands of miles in the truck, and it's still a dead-nutz tack driver
