Talk the matter out like men worth their salt would do. Appeal to the sportsman in him while feeding him some barbeque, steak and maybe a barley pop or two. Hard to not like someone feeding you barbeque or grilled steak. You can work it out.

Not a feeder, but the hunters across the fence on the west side on my property set up a blind RIGHT ON the fenceline facing into his property. Did that a day or two before season started on a Saturday (was out on Wednesday to tidy up a few things and it was not there). Generally would not have a problem but my son has his stand about 50 yards on our side of the fence facing southeast into our property. Just too close for comfort (and safety) if you ask me. My son has had his stand there for 4 years.

None of that is the point.

The law was written for a reason and not just to inconvenience hunters, and I am sure this is where the 10 acre minimum for hunting land came from as well. Doesn't matter one iota whether a bullet is going to hit something. NOTHING good can ever come from shooting across your fence line onto another person's property.

Too many hunters/not enough land...it's gonna get worse before it gets better...talking it out might help, but it's got so you really don't know neighbors with so many absentee owners, middle men/or the cattle guy doing the leasing...if the situation gets near the illegal point, call the GW.

Maybe I am the wrong guy to weigh in on the subject. I own the 55 acres I hunt. Everybody around me owns their land too and has for 20+ years. Between the 1,000 acres surrounding me there are 6 hunters. Only two of them lease and they seem nice enough. So hunting a fence is not really an issue. Guess I'm lucky to know my neighbors they know me and we all get along. But yeah Texas is a unique problem with everything being owned. That's why everybody should work together and come to some kinda agreements. People just too pissy these days

Had a similar situation in West Texas. BIL had a feeder accross a big canyon and just on the downslop of another feeder canyon (very backside of their property line). Feeder was there some 12 years when the other landowner decided to high fence this adjacent 15K acre ranch. BIL was very disappointed at first, but quickly realized deer would just walk down the fence line to the canyon to find their way to the feeder (no way of completely high fencing a property with big canyons). At one point does would even push their way through flaps in the low parts of the fence to get to the feeder. Anyways the neighbor set up cameras on his fence pointing to our feeder and even a second camera facing the first camera. We gently turned the fence camera away and left a note saying we didnt appreciate it and left names/contact numbers if he wanted to discuss it further as our feeder has been there for many years. Never heard back and we eventually moved the feeder being the difficulty getting to the spot in the first place. Some of our best deer were takin from that spot, but couldnt deal with the canyon crossing and bizzare "feeder problems" we always had.

I have one feeder 100 yards from my fence line and my blind faces the feeder. My "projectile" travels into a deer standing close to the feeder, thus does not "travel across a property line". My answer in case anyone (including a G.W.) asks.

In this day of smaller properties I don't think most would complain about 100 yards from a fence, particularly if there is some cover or if you are shooting down from an elevated position. Depends on the set-up. But it is a pretty thin arguement to say all your bullets stop inside the animal you are shooting. You never miss or get a pass-through? Personally, I'm surprised if their's no exit wound. Game Wardens do have some ability to think things through. They may be more likely to write you a ticket if you use that defense cuz you are jerking them around, and they know it. If there is any question of safety at all it's better to aim away from fence and leave no doubt.

(If your 'projectile' is an arrow or bolt, it is a different story.)

A good lawyer can change your thinking to "not worth the hassle".

Just talk to them. You'd be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't) at how many hunters never even give this a second thought or it never crosses their mind. Call it inexperience, bad manners or whatever. But I've never seen anyone who was questioned about a setup just like that who didn't get it right away and correct their error.

Had one of my hunters do that once and he had been deer hunting for 20 years. The neighbors brought it to our attention and we apologized and fixed it.

I'll let you come talk to my neighbor. You'll be pulling your hair out after thirty seconds with him.

Once a trailer or truck has been there for a few days, the deer won't give a rip. The get accustomed to new stuff in their environment pretty quickly, even a gut pile. Deer will walk right up to my truck, house, or shed. We put a blind near our gut dump site for the kids to shoot at varmints. They kept seeing deer in the area so we put up a feeder, it is now a popular hunting spot and has been labeled "The dump."
Just go talk to the guy.

I feel your pain, really do. I guess there's a first time for everything. I've had that happen to me or my group multiple times over the years. And that was hunting large ranches bordering large ranches too....1000 AC plus. And even had one of my guys do it once unbeknownst to me, but all were recognized as errors in judgment and corrected. Hell, I even saw one guy on a neighboring place set up his stand facing outward toward his feeder......THAT WAS ABOUT 50 YARDS FROM A HIGHWAY....if you can believe that. Ranch manager thankfully put a stop to that before any damage could be done.

If someone argues, I guess I would just ask them if they know where and who is on the land they are shooting toward. When shooting inward, at least everyone on the same lease or ranch should know where everyone else is set up or parked or hunting if everyone communicates as they should and everyone should set their hunting areas accordingly. Shooting into a neighboring property is ignorant and downright irresponsible and dangerous.

Our neighbor did this and I put a corn bag on the fence with a note. Low and behold he is a member here. He PM'ed me and we talked for an hour. He'll move it so the shot won't cross our fence. It was only about 10 feet away.

I have to say, I agree. He could move that feeder back in the brush a few yards and this wouldn't even be an issue. Some folks have no sense of what it takes to be a good neighbor. confused2

Let me get this straight......If I buy 80 acres of land, I should only hunt the inner 40 and leave the rest for the neighbor to hunt???

Put a stand up right on your side of the fence and put your feeder 100 yards into your place....
