I have never seen a 30.06 that didn't shoot Remington Corelokt 150 gr well. That's what I use in my Tikka. Grouped better than all the others I tried. First animal i harvested with that gun was a 150 lb hog. DRT

winchester 150 gr silvertips, (the old school, not the ballistic silvertips)...... there is plenty of quality ammo on the market nowadays, just a matter of matching your gun to what ammo it shoots best.

silver tips are a nasty bullet.
i've seen several make a hole the size of your fist!
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

yes sir. I'm not a big fan of punching pinholes. I wish I could find some to reload in my 300wm, I think that would be a dandy combination.

It's appearing that I'm going to have to start reloading to get what I want and save some money. I just don't have any experience doing it.

My Remingtom 700 shoots the Winchester Supreme Ballistic tip in the 168 gr. the best but they were hard to find this season so I have been shooting the 180gr

+1 on the Core lokt. Only had one that would not shoot it and it was gone the next day.

Thanks to everyone. I'll be making a trip to Academy soon to buy some ammo with cash, off the grid. I think I'll buy a box of everything you guys recommended and see what the rifle likes.

Hope it's not a long trip cause I was at Academy 2 days ago and they didn't have any .223 any brand / 22-250 none / and no core-lokt 30-06 they did have a few boxes of Super X in '06 hope your store is better stocked.. Added: But I did find corelokt rem's at GEBO's they actually had more ammo than Academy and was the same price.19.99....good luck to ya!!

Don't know what's up with Academy and ammo but the one near our house is out of most everything and overpriced on what's left. Wally World has had plenty though and at good prices.

Be sure and save the old brass that has been shot in YOUR gun this in my experience will provide the most accurate ammo for your gun.

+1 on the Fusion. Love the stuff. I have yet to find a rifle that doesn't like Fusion no matter the grain. 165gr. is my personal preference.

A bit much for the typical whitetail but my 06 really shoots the Hornady Light Mag 180 gr well.

I like the Remington 165 Core-Lokt and the Federal Fusion 165's. They both print the same point of impact in my rifles, and both drop deer and hogs with great efficiency.
