I am wanting to purchase a 9 mm for general purpose use not chl. I am leaning toward the berretta M9 I believe it was at Academy for $519+tax. I dont know a whole lot about these pistols , but looking for any input on what brands you guys suggest and why? I would like to stay in the 500 price range and below. Thanks in advance,Adam

If the Beretta appeals to you, then you can't beat it. There are some around for less money, but are used. IMHO, most of the quality/popular models out there are all good choices. If you like the Beretta style and reliability, consider the Taurus. Same thing with more mag capacity, and less green Georges up front.
Not to mention lifetime warranty and free NRA membership.

Shoot them first. I own a Beretta and several glocks. There both fine pistols. I prefer Glock but my M9 is deff one of my favorite pistols. You can find them used at gunshows for around 400+. I bought my M9 for 400 w/ 2 mags and a holster. But i think it was a duty weapon so it has wear.

Sig-Sauer P226 is still the best. Glocks and Beretta's are good compromises though...

any 9mm you are willing to use is worth the money. i like my wifes s&w sigma, my norinco 213 has never missed a beat, glocks are great, but i just got on this new kick with sigs i picked up a p6 and have a 226 enroute like next week. i may even switch from my glock duty weapon to the sig. but dont hold me to that. berreta is a fine gun.
i am cancelling my subscription, i am tired of your issues!

If you are not that familiar with pistols I suggest you go stay away from single action autos such as the 1911 or Browning Hi-Power. They are both excellent in experienced hands but for a beginner a double action is the only way to go. I would recommend a Glock, a CZ-75, P226 Sig S&W Sigma chambered in 9mm.

You can't go wrong with any of the above and I'd include the S&M M&P in the same category as the Glock, Springfied and Sigs.

Hi Power is also one of my favorites, but so damned expensive.
My favorite 30 Luger, 9mm, 40 and 357 Sig, I have Hi-Powers in each of those calibers.

I would suggest looking at the Glock 26. It is a subcompact 9mm but a very good 9mm. It is one of the best firearms that I have ever shot. But if you have big hands you might want to try a Glock 19. The other reason I like the Glock 26 is b/c it is a great gun for concealed carry. Plus it will shot JHP +P Ammo. Alot of your other 9s won't shot the +P ammo.

Which 9mm is not rated for +p ammo?

go to your local gun range that rents guns, shoot each one that YOU are interested in, ask the salesperson questions, like warranty info, how to take it apart and clean it and then decide what you like best
Friend, I wouldn't harm thee for all the world, but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.

I can think of no modern 9x19 pistol sold today not rated for +P ammunition. Please educate me.
Oh, and I drink the CZ Kool-Aid!
