Only place I have been hunting bear was at the San Carlos Reservation in AZ. I had a great time and saw lots of bears. They are a little smaller than what you can get up north But for the $1500 I paid it was a great hunt and I would go back again.

Contact Jake Jefferson out of Wasilla Alaska. He does some excellent combo black bear and grizzly hunts. Negotiate price down.

That's a good price. Were you camping or lodged, guided or just sent to a bait site or what?

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

Talk to Dan Harrison, he has tons of good bear hunting and probablly would'nt even have to mess with baiting. He is a stand up guy and he is Tred Barta's elk and bear guide. I met both Tred and Dan this year and he would definitely be my choice on a guide for black bear. In fact I will be archery hunting with him in Colorado this fall. Please Let him know his hog hunting buddy John sent you. Here is his website he doesn't have bears listed, but I know he said he is over run with bears like my place is with hogs and I promise you I have a ton of hogs.

Well I like the show but next time you see Tred Barta tell him it would be nice if he could hit what he was shooting at.

I have seen him shoot and he is an excellent target shooter, it is not near as easy as a compound bow. If deer can jump the string on a compound just imagine a long bow. For what he is hunting with and his style of hunting, plus with cameramen I would say it is pretty amazing. He is just the type of guy that doesn't cut out all the bs he shows it like it is. Oh and I love to give Tred crap so I will definitely pass on the message.

I am looking at some places in Idaho, some are in 2 bear areas.

I have held a bear license 3 times, twice in Colorado and the time I hunted in Newfoundland.

There may be some good deals in Colorado, since bears are beginning to be a fairly big nuicance up there.

The problem with going to B.C., is that it now requires a pass port to go into Canada.

Idaho has some good opportunities on two bear and license and tag rates for Non-Residents is really reasonable.

If you want a trophy black bear, I would hunt North Carolina. I saw some tremendous bear while I was stationed out there. If you go, you want to hunt the counties near the coast. Beaufort County has had bear killed up to 700 pounds. Hunts run from $1200-2000 for a 4 or 5 day hunt and they usually run them with dogs in the thickets and the swamps. Try Huckleberry Ridge Hunting Preserve phone # 1-888-248-6834.

Many Thanks for the info.

I am a picky old sumbich however, and two things are self evident in my makeup.

1. I am too old and fat to run behind a duck, much less dogs.

2. I have a real hard time dealing with most of the country east of I-45, so anything east of the Big Muddy is pretty much a no-go.

Also, I ain't never been much of a trophy hunter, just a representative animal or two of any species.

With Idaho having two bear areas and I believe they still allow hunting bears over bait, I am figgerin, that I can get the urge out of my system permanently and have some neat trinkets fer me necklace.

The hunt you mentioned sounds like it would be a good one however.
