Being weekdays, I doubt most could go and being Oklahoma I doubt most have or want to spend the money on a license, but throwing it out there in case someone is interested. Note an OK license bought today, is good till December 31st next season. So Wednesday, Thursday is the last two days of Snipe Season and I am taking advantage of that. Unless something different comes up, I am running up with the Vizsla mid day Wednesday and then back again all day Thursday. Bouncing all around walking hunting on the north side of the river and big lake. Bonus ducks or other game could be involved. If anyone wants to go, your welcome to tag along, and if wanted to could camp wednesday night and do a duck hunt Thursday morning. This will involve LOTS of walking and expect to get your feet wet if you don't have tall boots or waders you can hike in. Any takers?

I would love to go John, but I have burned up most of my vacation. I could do a late season hunt here in Tx if you are interested.
I have been snipe hunting with John and he knows what he is doing. If you want to snipe hunt this is your chance.

Not to derail but I think I encountered a snipe the other day. Was walking my pup in an adjacent field when this bird went whirring away through a patch of trees. It was about the size of a quail but had a really long beak. This was in Frisco but not adjacent to any body of water which I thought they generally hung out by.

John, I would have taken you up on this one. During the week is better for me and we could have stopped by my friend's creek to hunt woodies on the way back. BUT - I'm already committed to driving to Rockport for a pickup/delivery and hope to get in some redhead hunting in while I'm down there. Seriously, let me know about the Snipe Trip for next year and I will arrange the Woodie Hunt...as long as it's during the week. Hard to beat a trip with Snipe and Woodrows in the bag. Good luck and post pics when you get back.
Overheard at my last convention: "If you wanna make a million bucks in taxidermy, start out with 2 million and in 5 years, if you're lucky, you'll have a million left."

All you got to do is ask. I have been going every chance I can while the birds are around. Just depends on the birds next year. This afternoon I hunted a place (in Texas) that I did well on Snipe last year. Zero birds, but at least we walked up three squirrels. Snipe more than any other animal I hunt are unpredictable as to time of season and locations I find them, and how they act when I do. Rarely consistent from year to year. If they are back next year, we will go.
I will be hunting them south of dallas at least 5 separate days first half of Feb, again provided the birds are there to cooperate.

Or a Woodcock. In the last three years while hunting I encountered one in Denton county, one in Grayson county, and another forum member this year some in I think Tarrant County.

Howard, I am helping teach a confined space rescue class at DFW airport tomorrow and will be out of touch all day, but will call first chance I get. Hope you can make it.
To add to the post. Lets make that glad you can make it. Usual hunt report with pictures to follow in a few days.

John,
Kelly and I are off to a movie. I've set up our a.m. duck hunt, so we should meet in Denton just before 6:00.
I'm going to bring dekes, because I'm going to leave some for Andy.
Bring your calls, and that should do it.

Bird Trivia, What is the proper term for a Group of Snipe? For example a group or flock of Crows is actually a Murder of Crows. 10 points to the first person with the correct answer.

Actually Walk of Snipe is correct, but there is another word I was looking for. A flock of Snipe on the Ground was called a Walk of Snipe. There is another term for a flock of Snipe in the air.
Ok 10 points to Cboon22. But there is 10 more to hand out. Of course the points mean nothing, "just like a salad bar at a strip club".

Correct! Wisp of Snipe 10 points to you.
BTW, A Covie of Quail at one time was Bevy of Quail.

Learn something new everyday.
So, I saw a wisp of snipe and a walk of snipe lol. They were lucky I was more concerned with the huge numbers of divers in the area. They might not be so lucky next time.

Okay, John. So I got one. Is one a wisp or a walk... or murder? Kelly wants to know if it could be a school? I'm going to get her more wine.
That was really fun.
Okay, imagine standing in hip boots in silted muck to your calf and having John yell, "Behind, to your right", and you turn to find a small object moving at some sub sonic speed near sound, at either 18" off the water or at 12 o'clock high at 45 yards... I promise you, he will laugh if you fall on your butt, and he, and more importantly, Blaze expects you not to miss. But if you're nice, he'll come over and pull you out. And Blaze will pick up the bird... I hope.
Kudos to Blaze the wonderdog, and thank her for picking up that bird when I got in mid calf in mud deep in the water. Great retrieve!
John, please send me pictures via email, and if someone will tell me how, I'll post two pretty good ones and send them to you.
