no but due to watering them I am seeing lots more deer. I think the old ones knew there was no water on our place when it gets dry and quit coming till it got wet again.

I have had 2 water troughs set up for a couple years now. I set up a third that was a challenge. 330 gallon tank and 1200' of water hose. About a 300' elevation change to the bottom of a canyon. Talk about water pressure!

We are in Palo Pinto County where the drought is extreme. We put two troughs inside pens and have not caught a deer drinking from either one. Our tanks have recently trapped a little water.

I put game cameras on all of mine. All have been hit by deer, porcupine, raccoons, birds, fox even a badger. We are in West Crockett county and have extreme drought for 3 years. 90% of the Cedars up on the divide have died. If anything it keeps me busy.

Water is life. Luckily we've had enough rain to keep stock tanks wet, not full. We do have troughs available for the dry times.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

I started this year also....3 tanks and not enough water for a couple of minnows. I've got 3 150 gallon troughs and I fill them with a 275 gallon water tote about twice a month.

the key is a small trough and a big tank. I fill mine less than once a month most of the times. the ones by the protein feeders I fill more often. I have 2 that catch any rain water off the barn. that helps a lot. a 1/2 inch rain will give me a tank full of water.

I have a water trough about 20 yards from my feeder. It's 200 gallons. I'm in Bosque country near Waco. I've got a camera on it and I get about 1/3 as many photos as I do at the feeder, but then they stay at the feeder much longer than they do at the trough. It will last 4 months during the winter and 2 months during the summer. I have it in a nice concealed area that will help them feel safe. I will always have water near my feeder.

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

We have some trouphs around camp in livestock pens, the deer do use them when its dry. We have a stock tank but it goes dry in bad times. We also fill a 80 gal trough at each feeder when its dry. It lasts about 2 weeks before it goes dry.

We have 4 wells that feed our tanks but only let small amounts out at the ones that are low so we have water no mater how dry we get .

Wingem, I've been toying with the idea of running some troughs at our place in the hill country. We have a well up by the house and a few small stock troughs by the house. When it gets really dry deer will hit them regularly. Would be nice to have some access to water for them away from the house. What sort of water hose did you use to get the water to your setups? I'm guessing not just a standard garden hose. Any closer up pics of your setup would be awesome.

You can get rolls of poly pipe, much cheaper per foot than hose.

How often does a deer go to water? Once a day? Twice? Every other day? Always wondered. We have 5 tanks on our lease that for the most part all hold water all year so water hasn't been a main concern for us.

I'm guessing not just a standard garden hose. Any closer up pics of your setup would be awesome. The long canyon run was with heavy duty kink resistance water hoses. I looked into running poly hose but durability won over cost. At both the tank and trough ends I ran the hose through 1 1/4 inch electrical pvc conduit. I figure the higher traffic areas needed a little more protection from being stepped on and chewed on by animals. The other two setups I sat the holding tank on Railroad ties and used a low profile trough. About 11 inches high and holds about 50 gallons. I ran about 20'runs covering the hose with the same electrical conduit. All three hare supplied with 330 gallon holding tanks and I transport water in a 275 Gallon so there is not as much wear and tear on my vehicle due to the terrain. I use a 2000 GPH Rule Bilge pump (It was the biggest that would fit through the top of the water tank) with 25'leads I can connect to the car battery with alligator clips. The hose is 1 1/8 about 25'long. It takes about 25 minutes to fill.
