I've been thinking about rebarreling my 6-284. Its built on an Interarms Mark X. I cant even tell who made the barrel that's on the rifle now but suspect it was the original in .243 Winchester.
I may drop back to 6mm Rem or maybe 6mm AI, but maybe not.
I'm thinking of going with a Douglas, but I'd like to see what you guys who do a lot of rebarreling think. How does Douglas compare to the higher end stuff? What other makes should I check out? I know I want to go a little better than Shaw or A&B.

Douglas makes a good barrel for the money. If you're doing it on a budget, and you can get it quickly, I think you'll be pleased. Unfortunately I want the barrel in my hands, right away. Which means I need to find it in stock somewhere. Plus, I'm looking for barrels that I'm more critical about anyway hence my preference for Bartlein and others.

Benchmark or Pacnor other than that I'd go with one of the cut rifled barrel guys.

In Douglas pricerange I like McGowen barrels for their internal and external finish. Wait time can be long these days. Douglas delivers faster but is a little rougher. n fact suppliers like Brownells cary stock on them. Shilen is the same, and is a Texas company.

I'll be the odd man out...I have the opinion if you are going to spend the money on a new barrel get a cut one not a button. Kreiger, Bartlien or Brux. Not saying the buttons won't shoot because some of them will, I just think overall you get a better barrel.
FYI....I had a McGowen 6.5 barrel that was a hammer but I'd still go way of the 2 B's and a K...there are other cut barrels but those are the 3 most popular and easy to get.
Now if you are talking prefit for a Savage or Remage, buy a CBI/McGowen/etc

Go to bugholes.com and if he has it in stock buy it. He has the best barrels from all the top makers. You can't go wrong with any of them that he has. Right not I shoot a brux and it is a hammer.

Douglas premium will do just fine. Stainless is preferred as it machines better than chrome moly steel.

I just had a 6mm rem built with douglas premium barrel. Shoots great, but hope you already have brass as it is near impossible to find now. Certainly worth thinking about.

I have brass for the rifle as a 6-284 and I'm inclined to just stick with it. I guess brass availability has to be a consideration these days!
Thanks for all the suggestions. I appreciate it.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to see such reasonable prices for the better barrels. Considering the cost of installation, it makes good sense to go with a better barrel!

Both of my 6's have Shilen barrels and are tack drivers. The only others I will shoot are Hart and Broughton

I have had excellent results with Shilen, and McGowan...heck we re barreled a friends M700 with a A&B barrel for his 300 WSM and it is a shooting Machine. I think most are pretty good. I Have had expensive Mike Rock barrels, and cheap shaw barrels that I got from Midway....all have worked, some are better than others but all worked.
