What makes the 770 so much cheaper? Been wondering this myself for a while.

HAHA just tell it like it is. Its made cheap, 3 lug design with interchangeable bolt head, cheap stock plastic bottom metal, a list of little things like that ... Reminds me of a slightly cheaper tika

Reminds me of a slightly cheaper tika Dont be hatin on the Tikka! I'll take one $500 Tikka action over two $1000 Stillers. But yes the 770 isn't worth looking into the 700 has proven itself but it will need a Timney trigger.

I am looking to build a rifle, tactical stock heavy barrel and lighter trigger? which 700 would be the best? Can I use an old ADL action and modify to my liking?

Love my tikka... If you buy the 770 top it with one of those quality barska scopes! Lol ..had a local gun shop said his barska glass is clearer than Swarovski ! I knew then not to buy from him

Short action in a 308 bolt face. Long action, long action magnum bolt face. Any will do it.
Yes, an ADL will work fine. This is what is called a donor rifle. In the end all you're using is the action, so get it as cheap as you can because they are all created equal.

Would it matter what caliber I got if I was going to get a new barrel? The barrel is what chambers the cartridge, correct?

Built a few, they are smooth and the factory trigger is good. But they have a recoil lug system like a savage axis and a browning a bolt bolt. The couple we have done have shot really well but wish they had a real recoil lug and were a little tighter.
You would be crazy to take a tika over a stiller. You must have never had a good one built for you

Theres nothing wrong with them per say, just not my choice if I had options, but for the price not bad. Would definitely pick a tika over a savage edge, any browning, any ruger, most winchesters. But would still take a savage, remington, or stiller/ clone any day of the week.

Is there a difference in the 700 and 770 actions? Yes when given the chance get the 700 the 770 is there price point model. Its a 3 lug design with a pined in bolt head. leaving that fit really sloppy. I have already this year fixed a few because there was so much slop once fired the bolt head would not move and open unless you wiggled it up and down just right. The bolt handles are plastic. the magazine components are plastic. The bolt port is small. and they use even a worse stock than a factory 700. The 700 will hold its value the 770 depreciates Trust me the 700 is way more valuable. If you are worried about price all kidding aside look hard at the tika and or a savage.
