Anyone have experience with these sharpening systems? Trying to decide which to go with

I've got an edge pro and really like it. I started making knives a couple of years ago and use it to put a scary sharp edge on my blades. I considered the wicked edge when purchasing mine, but I wanted something I could use to set the angle on a new knife. For blade maintenance and general sharpening I don't think you can go wrong with either.

A good friend of mine has one. He took my brand new Benchmade and rehoned the edge with the Wicked Edge system. He went progressively finer all the way to leather strop. I does get knives scary sharp! You can choose your blade angle. More obtuse for rough work, down to acute for fine work like some kitchen knives. The key to these sharpening systems is that if maintians the perfect angle on both sides of the blade, which creates a very consistent wedge from tip to handle.

I certainly won't be making any knives, just sharpening and touching up. Just wondering if the added cost of the wicked edge is really worth it. Anyone else?

I have the edge pro as well. If I remember correctly it's cheaper than the wicked edge. Don't know if cost is a concern or not. I've sharpened my knives and lots of buddies knives. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

I have an Edge Pro and have been very happy with it.
It is easy to learn to put on an extremely sharp edge.
Also, there are plenty of aftermarket stones available for it, some very expensive, some very inexpensive.
Congress Tool Moldmaster stones work very well for just a few dollars each.
Just make sure to cover the blade with packing tape or masking tape to prevent the blade finish from being scratched.
The Wicked Edge looks very nice as well, but more expensive, and I "think" it requires the use of proprietary replacement stones, but not sure about that.

Do a Google search for "homemade Scary Sharp knife sharpening system", it uses piece of glass and sheets of sandpaper.

As a matter of fact, used my Edge Pro just this weekend. Pulled out my 2 skinning knifes and got them ready to go for this season, sharpened my pocket knife, and a couple of kitchen knives. Easy to use. Put a nicely polished, hair shaving, edge on all of them.

These top of the line sharpeners certainly do the job. You will not regret getting the edge pro. I have the pro series, and can get my knives too sharp. I mean scary sharp. One little touch on skin and your cut. I quartered 5-6 deer this past week and have two small bandages on my fingers to prove it.

Wicked Edge is superior to Edge pro. No argument intended.

Don't know about these ones but I recently got the work sharp system. It works great. Took old puma white hunter that was rounded and can shave with it now. Quick easy and effective

I have the work sharp too and it works great with one exception and that would boning/fillet knives. The blades on them are so flexible that as you get toward the front of the knife I find I cannot maintain the angle of the blade against the belt since the blade invariably flexes and changes the angle just enough to through it off. Everything else it preforms great on. I'm sure its just me but that's my experience.

Have you considered a belt sander? It seems like a lot of the more advanced guys on knife forums swear by these.
