Read on my Kindle, text the other hunters and yes, even a nap or two.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

try bird watching, it becomes quite frequent, quite colorful, and even get a book to help id the species, then you can practice learning the calls and sounds. A good set of binochs makes observing very colorful and time passes, until the big buck steps out.

I used to never nap, choosing instead to be constantly on point. All the while, my hunting pard, my BIL would always shoot the big buck, and the story would usually go something like, "well, I was asleep, and then woke up and this big ol buck was just standing out there...." So, I've learned to relax more. I listen to music thru ear buds, and text the BILs in their blinds. I know I've missed seeing some deer while napping. Last year I pulled the card out of my cam after the morning hunt and checked it back at camp only to be surprised to see a pic of a nice young 8 that came to my feeder at 8am, apparently while I had either nodded off or spent too long looking in another direction. Oh well, it was a peaceful relaxing morning and I saw other deer.
So she says "sure Honey, I agree, you DO need a new deer rifle..." And that, boys, is how I ended up with new living room furniture!

I take along a Louis L'Amour book. My gf just got me Volume 1 of his short story collection. It's perfect cause each story is only 5-16 pages long. I read a paragraph or 2, scan the open lanes and around the feeder, repeat.

I just take in the peace and quiet, and meditate on all sorts of thoughts...Being up in the blind or tripod just takes the stress away...so I just relax until I can see stuff moving...then I get my eagle on eye, and start glassing. This exactly! ^^^ I am too excited to sleep. The big one will most likely come thru before the sun ever gets up...

Never fails, when I TRY to take a nap I am never able to. Its the ones that sneak up on you, like you suddenly realize 30 min have gone by and you dont remember a thing, that are impossible to guard against lol
