Well its been a awesome start to my season. I bought a 1 acre lot near Bryan in January in a small subsivision. As of August no houses had gone up yet so I asked the deceloper if he minded if I dove hunted out there. He gave me the go ahead and said if I wanted to deer hunt, he owned the 17 acres that backed up to me and didnt mind if I hunted there. So I set up some cams and after a month or so inlate August I got pis of some nice bucks, including a real nice 9. I hung up a feeder and put in a bow stand. As of The start of the season none of the good bucks had showed up, but since I live 5 minutes away I hunted alot. Last weekend I finally saw a good buck and it wasthe big 9 point I really wanted. I saw him Saturday morn, Sunday morn and again on Thursday afternoon, but he never got within bow range. Rifle season couldnt come fast enough. I normally hunt my family ranch in Matagorda County, and hadnt ever missed an opening weekend in 20 years, but I had become obsessed with this buck so I decided to stay and hunt Saturday Morning. I saw 9 different bucks including a real nice 8 point but the big boy decided to sleep in. I packed up and drove the 2.5 hours down to bay city. We had been seeing a big ugly 6 pt that no one else was willing to blow their tag on so I figured Id take one for the team. They told me where they had seen him and sure enough, he showed up and I took care of him. In my craziness, I decided I would try to get back to Bryan to hunt Sunday morn. I was too tired to drive back that night, so I set my alarm for 3am (damn time change) and was in the stand by 5:45 Sunday morn. ... And saw 1 doe. My wife convinced me to hunt that evening, so after watching some terrible football, I went out ans saw exactly 0 deer. I I decided to give it another try this morning, so I took off from work and it was ON. Just like Saturday, bucks were chasing and grunting all over and at 7:30 2 does ran out and he was right behind em. One shot and he took off. Ran about 80 yads and was down! Heres the results:
