He surprised me once I seen him for the first time on the hoof also...I had nothing but IR pics of him I didn't even know the antlers were dark colored.

This thread was about the problems we have when trying to judge deer from pics and trying to get guesses on spreads for AR's for pics. What angle the buck is standing in a pic can change what we see and how we see it. It can humble anyone. I miss my share on here.
The Goliad buck was killed in late Dec 2012 in a year that it only rained 9" from May till Jan. He was 7+ on age and poor as a snake. He did show up till after Thanksgiving on TC. I had not seen a deer on the ground here or found a shed so I was working off guesses just like this thread was about.
If I had been Nav and had those pics to go by I still don't think I could have made the decision to shoot without study the deer long and hard when he was standing in front of me.

Thanks and you were right about body weight in the county.. use to not see a deer over 120lbs just for the reason of there not being many bucks over 3yrs old. I almost didn't get this one loaded in the buggy by myself... been some big changes in the county the last few years

I bet the same spread, Nav's scored more, STX's was older & Nav's heavier, both had 4 legs.

Looking at this on my phone also so might be off just a hair

That might a pretty long hair then..since you could be off on one, or two or three or four of those guesses. grin

Nope thats what they are unless you want to bring them somewhere and meet up and score them .What you may not know is i am a grad from a and m and did studies with Greg Simons, Ruben Cantu, Steve Nellea and i have been involed with the TPW for over 25 years so i think i know a little but hey think what you will.

Your not the first to call him out. For the record most who do are wrong. I was.

For every year of experience you have in a classroom he probably has two hands on.

Don't mind them Threelranch. It is close to hunting season and they are getting edgy. It is a forum and what we can't see is how serious someone is about their posts or replies to posts. Almost all of mine are made when I smiling as a type. I have a great sense of humor, hence the grin at the end of my reply back to you. Have fun on here since life is to short. cheers

Okay....for the width part They both were 13 6/8" inside spread. So neither bucks was wider or narrow than the other one. Some got the spread right (after some waffling) on one but not the other.... As far as score some really blew it. Nav' bucks grossed 144 5/8" and the buck my Dad killed grossed 129 7/8". So Nav's was bigger by a lot.
It was fun and I won a couple of cases of beer off the Da Clown
They both were 13 6/8" inside spreadThats a real hard to belive they are both the same to the 6/8 th but
Nav' bucks grossed 144 5/8"I would have to put my hands on that one to see cause i dont see it form the blury pic.

I didn't see it either till the tape was put to him.

the 35inches of mass, almost 43 inches on the MBs helped him alot
