I need loading information for 45 colt using Green Dot powder and 250 gr LFN bullets. I am using Oregon Trail bullets. Any suggestions or experience would be appreciated. I have been trying to get Unique but that is a lost cause. I have 4 lbs of Green Dot left over from shotshell loading so would like to use that if possible. Based on loading manuals and internet it looks like a suitable powder and comes in about 1 grain less than Unique loads. What is your experience.

My older Lyman book lists 4.5 grs for 505 ft per sec. up to 7.0 grs. for 835 ft per sec. If your shooting them in a Ruger
you probably could up that just a bit but I don't have any data on it.

Think you are SOL with the Green Dot powder. I looked through 5 different Loading Manuals & none of them even list Green Dot Powder. Unique & 2400 & Blue Dot & lots of others. Sorry

I had the same luck in going through current manuals. However, Green Dot must be a magic powder nobody wants to divulge because on the internet and older manuals you find all kinds of loads. Many people have been using Green Dot for years with excellent results.

One of my old hand load records show that I loaded a 250 gr. with 7.1 grs. of Green Dot in my Ruger and I
don't recall having any problems. Be careful, Green Dot is a fast powder and it builds pressure pretty
fast. If you need a faster load than listed above then wait until you find a different powder.

I am not looking for hot loads. I am looking for loads that will achieve around 830 to 850 fps

Geezer Ranger I did find A load for Green Dot in an old book I forgot I had. 250 Lead cast bullet Green Dot Powder. Start 6.2gr=775fps. 6.8gr=850fps at 12,500 Pressure in C.P.U.
