I was at Walmart in Amarillo this morning and they had bulk pack and CCI 100 packs of 22 Long Rifle. I picked up the bulk packs and checked out. I was back in about 3 hours later to have some keys made and swung by the ammo counter to check the status. The 22 shelves were empty. I commented to the clerk it was already gone and he responded by stating that "nope it was for Black Friday and he wasn't to be put out". I looked closer and he was pushing a shopping cart almost full of the 22 CCI 100 packs of standard velocity. Looks like that will be a door buster after Thanksgiving!

By "for Black Friday" he meant "for me to buy and sell for 5x retail"

I was at Bass Pro the other day and they had about 100 boxes of the cheapo Remington, 50 round, 22LR. I went around the corner to pick up some steel shot and returned only a few minutes later, and it was all gone. With a limit of one box per person, there was no way 100 people went down that isle. Someone grabbed it all and hid it around the store, or an employ snatched it up.
An evening a few months back at Academy we came across a pallet of ammo in the middle of the isle. After some brief digging we found bricks of 22LR. As my dad wanted some we proceeded to the checkout. To our surprise we ran into a checker that that said the 22LR was not to be put out until in the morning and he would not sell it to us. My daughter had the standard "pissed off customer" argument and demanded a manager. When he showed up there was another argument. He said that we could come back in the morning and try to get some first thing "if there is any left." Clearly there was something going on at this store and they were trying to keep it out of our hands. After a bit of an uproar between her and the manager (it was wonderful to watch, he was an idiot), he let us purchase the brick. He was looking bad in front of his employees as we saw through what was going on, and he needed to get my daughter out of the store before everyone knew what was up.
I am amazed that there is still 22LR scams going on, clearly employees and management are involved and have been contributing to the problem. Although I have noticed more being available, I'm glad I don't need any 22LR, it is like dealing in illegal drugs or buying Cabbage Patch Kids in 1987.

Yep. IMO Employees are the culprit and managers are either in on it or allowing it to continue.

If it is an Academy store and you think it is a scam, call the corporate office in Katy. Ask to speak to the ammo buyer and he can tell you if it is supposed to be held. These things will continue until someone calls corporate and does something about it.
If it is a Walmart store, ask for the phone number of the District Manager and call him. Get something done about it don't just complain at the store level.

Low and behold I went to Walmart the other day. Saturday around 11 am. There had 12 boxes of cci. Never seen 22 at wm. Luckily my wife was there so I got 6 boxes. Probably won't see it again for a while there but I was amazed.

I'll chime in because I have experienced the Walmart issue personally and complained. I have found a couple of "neighbors" that for what ever reason have an inside line to the Walmart gun clerk. They get notified in advance when .22RF shells will be put out. Not just on one occasion but its been going on for months. The post above about employees and managers being involved is true. I disagree however that its not Walmarts doing. They allow it to happen. I complained to corporate and they turned it over to the local manager to answer. He had a prepared response; "we have trouble keeping these on the shelves once they come in bla bla bla" and blamed the ammo mfg. As for this recent Oct 4 sale on CCI std velocity, it was gone in about 3hrs. Once again People would bring their aunts and uncles and cousins and wives, whoever they could get to stand in line and circumvent Walmarts corporate 3 box limit. We can live without 22 rimfire shells I suppose, if I need a possum for dinner someday I can use a 5.56 or a 12ga or just about anything. But I wont buy shells from re-selling dirtbags and profiteers gouging us to put a little more money in their pocket. Just wait til this starts happening with gasoline. Cant use a different product for that. Or wait til it starts happening with bread or other food.
