I use the Sierra ones. I use 25 gr of varget. 2900fps out of my 20" 1:8 barrel. I think your 20" 1:9 may work well, 16" 1:9 is a little iffy-er.

If serria call their bullet smith help line.
Like Gravy Train said Varget will work and I bet it will work in the shorter barrel just lower velocity but enough to get the job done

I'm about to put together loads for FILs rifle with 65gr SGK over H335 (probably) or Varget

I think you're getting pretty close to a compressed load with that much Varget. I've worked up a pretty good load with CFE223. It will measure better than Varget as well.

Sierra told me,a couple years ago, to use the load data for their 63 gr SMP bullet. I did. Worked fine.

I'm about to put together loads for FILs rifle with 65gr SGK over H335 (probably) or Varget Good luck with the H335. I found it too fast of a powder for the 65 SGK and 69 SMK. It has always been great for the 55 grainers. I couldn't get it to group at all through my ARs. Switched to RL15 and the accuracy came to life. Very small extreme spreads as well.

I run this bullet over Varget in a 1/8 twist. Groups great, coyotes don't like it. Deer have yet to meet it, but I don't think they would think much of it either.

I think you're getting pretty close to a compressed load with that much Varget. I've worked up a pretty good load with CFE223. It will measure better than Varget as well. I think all my 308 and .223 Varget loads are lightly compressed and it seems to work just fine.

I've got 50 rounds loaded with 55 gr Hornadys right now. But even with 8 lbs of Varget on the bench, I have just subscribed to the fact that there are better .223/5.56 powders, especially if you're running through a powder measure. I do load my .308s with 43.9 gr of Varget in LC cases and that load is pretty full in the case.

It's true Varget is not the best in my thrower, but there are things you can do to mitigate the issues. 1) Wack the side of the hopper every 2-3 throws 2) Don't let the hopper get less than 1/3rd full But even then, I still trickle in the last .5 grains with a hand trickler.
