Saturday morning at first light, I had a 10 pointer and 24 yards under the feeder eating corn. Had the "new" crossbow that shoots 245 fps. At the shot, he ducked and the bolt barely grazed the top of his back and hit the ground 40 yards behind him. It didn't seem to spook him too much. I didn't hunt anymore over the weekend so hopefully he will come back. I should have aimed lower (heart shot). Oh well, it happens to all of us, eventually.

I've had my fair share of deer jumping the string. It's nothing to get too upset about. Better luck next time!

Man I had the same problem had one that wouldn't stop till she was almost behind me finally let it fly and knicked a mustang grape vine and went over her. I was pissed but hey at least stick her poorly and wound her. Mine was the same way didn't really freak out at all saw me going for another arrow an ran though.

If its that fast I'd move a pile of corn to about 35 yards from you stand. It's the noise of the crossbow shooting that's making it jump the string.

I know I am about to stir it here but funny how anytime we all miss here it was always the deer's fault. It very we'll may have been but you never here anyone say they made a bad shot and missed. There is a lot that can go wrong even tho that deer is 25 yards that you don't realize in the heat of the moment with adrenaline pumping and your mind concentration on that deer. Not pointing you out just a comment in general.

95% of my misses were over the back so I always aim for the heart now. If I hit my spot it's a good heart shot blood trail if I hit high it's a double lunge

Heck I missed opening day; for some stupid reason I thought opening was Saturday Oct. 4th.. I've been really busy with my knife and consulting business.
I took out my 12 year old grandson to the ranch last week end and he did stick three rabbits with the recurve I made for him... it was well worth it to see him tagging rabbits with a recurve at 25 and 30 yards. I started him off at three and now he's out shooting grown men.

Deer are always on high alert at feeder. With a loud crossbow as you know, aim low. Don't kick yourself as it's a lesson learned. Good luck the rest of season.

Personally I thought it was at 30 so I put the 30 yard pin on him and released and arrow went right under him. He ended up being closer to 38 yards. It happens and next time I wont guess ill actually range him.

I missed for the first time in years and it was my fault and I had no confidence in the shot. Deer came straight behind me fed down wind and didn't wind me somehow so I turned around in the stand standing up and they still didn't see me. I ranged her at 28 when she stopped behind some trees with nothing but vitals showing and I was so worried about hitting the tree I guess I pulled it too far out because I missed her off the front of the brisket. No sweat, go get my arrow and try again, it was fun and I needed to build some fence anyway so it worked out.
