So there's a dead cow in one of the tanks at the lease... Small tank, maybe 1/2 acre when full. The lazy arse landowner will most likely just let it rot. Do I need to worry about eating animals that have been using that tank to water? Dove, deer, pigs, turkeys?

I wouldn't sweat it.

You should be so lucky if it killed the pigs!
Seriously though you shouldn't worry about it, but just report it to the LO.

Depending on how small of an amount of water is left, it could be bad for anything that drinks the water. A cow is a lot larger than a bird or fish or small critter.

Regardless, I'd find a way to get it out if the landowner won't. We have one pasture we can't put the cattle in b/c tanks are so low they sink in the sediment. Will this drought ever end?

I'd get it out if you can, but that is easier said than done.

Over all most animals are smart enough to avoid poisoned water.

If The LO wont get it out I think (if I were you) I'd try and drag it out myself.

Yep, unless it is the only water supply they have.

Or unless they don't realize the water is bad.

Offer to give the LO a hand to get it out, I don't think it will hurt them...

It kinda depends on how long it has been there if you can get it out in one piece or not. Not a very good job especially if it has been there a while. Look at the bright side. It is feeding the fish. If you do try, get a rope or cable around the biggest part. That is the only chance of doing it in one piece. How do I know? Been there.

Not trying to be an arse but why don't you get it out if you are worried about it? Maybe the landowner isn't the only lazy arse. nidea

Because it's not my cow, it's not my land, and I don't pay money to drag dead cows out of ponds. The cow is out in the middle of a shallow muddy pond and has been there a while, if you think that would be easy please let me know how to do it.

Not only that, but the way things go around here, the LO might try to make the hunter pay for it.

If it's been there for a while, I'd just leave it. Believe me you don't want to try now

If it's been there a while then moving or trying to move it isn't going to make any difference other than to say you did.
