ya, just depends on how close they get to you, i shot my first coyote with a .22, if your talking about Lr rimfire. just depends on shot placement the longer away they are, not unless you want to track them.

I shot a gray fox with a .22 long rifle right in the boiler maker at less then 70yrs & he ran off & was never found, no blood either. Fox are softer then yotes. But with the right placement, it will die..might have to track it a while. I mean you can, no law against it

try a 22 mag
have killed many of coyotes and bobcats with it
just try to find the heaviest grain bullet--- CCI is a good brand
Rick Paillet from the Verminators videos used a 22 mag for a long time for his videos
distance is a problem as it is with all rifles-- within 100yrds is easy money,, shoulder or head shot

I just don't see any reason to use it. I won't even use my .17 HMR. I use the .22-250 or .223 or whatever other rifle I have. Or a shotgun with Dead Coyote or #4 buck.
22's are used for squirrels and cans.

I am with Cleankill. While I have most everything out there with a .22 rimfire, there are calibers that are made for this game. I agree that the .17 HMR is too small for coyotes and bobcats though it will kill based on shot placement.

Dude, I killed 'yotes the past 3 nights in a row with a .22lr. I have a marlin model #60 and model #70. I popped one at 66yrds last night (head shot) and she dropped. 14 minutes later, big bro came out after a call, popped him and before we could drag them both off, eyes popped out at 49 yrds. Three yotes in 20 minutes. All hit with the trusty .22lr. My buddy's dad is 76. He has 1190 acres in bastrop Tx. He is a recluse. He tells me that before all the laws came into effect, He used to deer hunt with his .22lr and he still does. Yotes with a .22, GO FOR IT. Critics and bills; you will always have 'em.
A good hog is a dead one.

I've shot some with a .22LR but I've had more run off not to be found than not. Course I really didn't worry too much 'bout that long as they quit eatin' fawns.

yeah that's what i have is a marlin .22lr
i'm 17 so buying guns is sorta out of the question for now,
money and age reasons.
i'll try it,

Oh man! I guess we should all start using 22's for everything from now on because someone had some lucky kills with it!
What is with the logic of some people? Just because something has worked in the past doesn't mean it is perfectly great for the task.
Killing deer with a .22? I would never admit to something so ignorant and irresponsible as that.
If your worried about money kid get an NEF handi rifle. They're only about $250 and you can get a 22-250 or something. Don't use a 22. Just because someone has used it before doesn't mean its very smart.

When you can afford more gun, get a bigger rifle. In the meantime, hunt with your .22, go for head shots, pass up shots you should not take.
Some of us have forgotton our roots. $250 is a boatload of cash for a lot of kids. I did a lot of rimfire hunting several decades ago because that was all I could afford. Now, while I am a long way from wealthy, if I need a rifle or some other piece of equipment, I can go out and buy it. That was not the case when I was a teenager and later when I was raising a young family on enlisted man's pay.
Do we want this sport to be reserved for only people with good incomes? If you get laid off or down on your luck, should you surrender your hunting license?
Don't be so quick to judge. Poor boys have poor ways.

Nothing wrong with hunting yotes with a .22...question is should he do it?? not if a .22 is the best choice?
A 22 is not the best choice but nothing wrong with hunting coyotes with a 22.

.22 is what i started with when i was a kid.....it works for the close ones..and it depends how good of a shot you are..head shots and neck will work...lung shots or shoulder they will do the old bite and spin run....222, .223, works well inside 300 yds....if you want a sure thing get a 22.250 and shoot 55gr. nosler ballistic tips....

found this online at ableammo.com (Savage Model 93F Magnum Rimfire Rifle 91800, 22 Win Magnum Rimfire, 20.75", Bolt Action, Black Syn Stock, Blue Finish, Accutrigger, 5 Rd Mag) all for 198 dollars. My advice is save up your money and go for something like this if you don't want to spend the money on a higher powered rifle. A 22 mag. is plenty of gun for yotes and bobcats, again distance depends on accuracy of the shooter.

Just because "More deer have been killed with a .22 and a flashlight than you would ever dream." doesn't mean it's a good decision.
I realize the kid doesn't have much money. I don't even care that he wants to use it for coyotes. What I do care about is the genius making the .22 out to be a superb coyote round. Sorry, but its not. It never will be.
