Hunting with a cross bow for the first time. As far as broad heads, can you use the same ones for a compound bow? I've only seen one pack of Rages' that were labeled for cross bows.

100 or 125 gr?

Fixed you can use any of them, mechanical only use the ones for crossbows. Have seen Rage open up from the torque of a crossbow before leaving the bow, they sure sound different and fly different with the blades open in flight.

Montec and Slicktrick are some good fixed blades.

125 are the way to go IMO

I am also new to the Xbow game this year. Having read a ton of articles and opinions it seems the most important thing is overall arrow weight. If a 100 gr head gives you at least the minimum required arrow ( bolt) weight suggested by the manufacturer, and it shoots well for you, then you are in business. I purchased an Excalibur and the minimum weight is 350 grains. Their Diablo carbon bolt with a 100 gr head is exactly that weight. However, I've heard that a little heavier bolt will quiet the bow a touch and although is not necessary, will carry more energy. You might read up on F.O.C. and see what you think about broadhead weight in relation.

I think I am going to use at least 125 gr and perhaps 150s.

If you are going to use mechanical, just do some research and make sure he one you pick will operate well at he speed you are shooting.

There is lots of info out there. Try crossbownation.com or archerytalk.com, and you might also see if your bows manufacturer has info and forums on their website.

Good luck! PM me a pic if you get a deer!

Which ST head are you using? I'm going to try the Xbow Trick and see what I think (150gr).

My crossbow recommends ONLY 100 gr broadheads. you need to check your users manual before commiting to any one size.

You should give some serious thought to thanking your lucky stars your from Texas.

Can I use a crossbow broadhead on a compound?

I won some Shwackers and they say Crossbow on them. It's a mechanical. I tried out the practice tip last night, and other than it hitting about 2" low it was fine.

I think you can, my only concern is whether or not it will fully open at compound speeds as compared to crossbow velocity. Are you shooting a fairly fast bow? What info does Swhackers site have on them?

Honestly I haven't looked at it much. I won them in a drawing and want to try it out on a raccoon or something before. But I've got some NAP kill zones I'll be using for now.

Bow chrono'd at 260-265. I'm shooting slightly heavier arrows since then but I've also turned my bow up as well. I'll see what Shwacker says about it.

The key thing is to ensure the total weight of your arrow with the broad head exceede the minimum weight required for your crossbow. Otherwise, you could damage it.
