I have a 3 year old chocolate lab who is a beast when it comes to retrieving. He watches ducks come in, he marks really well and even runs off my whistles and commands, but he is a whines when we are just sitting a waiting. I've read and been told that's all my fault for working him on bumpers more than obedience and that I should go back to basics and work him on being patient. Any other advise that might work?

My first question is, how long has this been going on? If it is a new thing then you might be able to fix it. If there are three seasons of conditioning, good luck.

I agree.^ I will put my hand over their muzzle squeezing while saying quiet. unless hes obnoxious or flaring birds, i probably wouldnt worry to much about it. Robby

I do/did what Robby said, grab and squeeze his muzzle and tell him quiet.
