I've got two new Patternmaster chokes. Ones the anaconda on is the extended range. They both have a warning on them that says for best results , Ballistic Performance, LLC, recommends ammunition velocities below 1550fps. How should this be interpreted. I have a bunch of Remington hypersonic steel from last year which is 1700fps. Unsafe? Or just not recommended?

There's not much pattern master can't handle!!! I'm sure! I don't think it's gonna be like elmerfudd tying a knot in your barrel by any means

The reasons that I have read its that steel shoot doesn't have enough time to compress at the higher velocities and will cause a slight barrel bulge if used in a full choke. Use modified or less choke constriction. Having said that, I too have a full choke waterfowl patternmaster and emailed the company asking the same question. The reply was shot anything I wanted. The guy that responded said he shoots BBB thru his and loves it. He said his patterns better with the larger shot. This choke isn't the same as yours though. Might play it safe until you can email them.

I have the code black duck tube which recommended the same <1550fps ammo and I had success with everything I shot last year. Screw that bad boy in and go to town!

Of I want to blow up your barrel go ahead. I would open up to IC or maybe skeet at that velocity.

I've shot a PM for 15 years and have ran every shell you can think of through them only thing you can't shoot or not recommended to shoot through one is flight control wads . As far as velocity I've shot 1700fps out of mine a bunch got free shells they didn't pattern at all ! Stay around 1500 FPS and slower you will be fine .
