1st year, I'd be patient, come hunting season, you may find your place has been used as a safe haven for deer. If I had a choice for next year, I'd say food plot in the "U" even if it was only 1 acre, I'd also come up with a viable water option.
Did you buy the property for just recreation, or intend to build/live there at some point? If so, might want to get a water well done, since it wont be getting any cheaper. May also be able to add a small pond if the land is conducive for it.
Quickest option would be a trough, float and water storage tank. Many ideas and great set-ups on THF posted by members.

Don't over think things. Quite worrying about scent, feed types, feed additives, etc.... Set a feeder and throw corn. Wait and see what happens. If you bumped a buck at night, then you have deer in your area. Relax and have fun, you will know what you need to do to improve your place after this year.

Got one on the trail cam by the blind around midnight last night! Also lot of coon activity now to go with all the big black birds...so traffic is picking up!
Still nothing at the feeder but birds, but Im pretty happy to see a deer coming into the trail I made!

I just purchased land that hasn't been hunted in 10 years or so. The Land is heavily wooded on three sides, like a giant U shape, with the opening facing a 40 acre field. I know the deer are there as I ran right upon a buck last night in the UTV.
Here are my questions (I apologize if they are dumb, I am new to setting up land)
1- Should I mow inside the opening of the U ? Land is overgrown with thickets and grass is 3' tall. 2- Is it too late to setup a feeder and do I mow where the feeder will be set? (I have feeder, and salt block, attractants) 3- Should I setup the ground blind now?
Season Opens Oct 1st, so only one month... thanks for any advice anyone can offer.
Well Brother you came to the right place for advice...we have more experts per square inch than any other hunting forum on earth My totally uneducated opinion...mow, set that feeder and ground blind up now...spend some time looking around for signs and be adaptable...good luck... rick
