My hunting cabin was broken into recently. Luckily we don't leave many expensive items in it during the off season. Looks like they only took a few fishing poles, tackle, lanterns and a buddy heater. I'm sure they took what they could carry out. At least they left the tree stands, cots and sleeping bags. I don't have much patience for a thief!!!!

Where was your place? What kind of security did you have? Reason I ask is we are considering some land in SE OK...

It's on the Atoka/Pushmataha County line. Really good hunting but lots of meth heads lol. I would consider the land up here high at approx 1500 to 2000 per acre. Not sure what the land prices are from where you are from though. No security just big locks and dead bolts. We had prepared ourselves for this and actually thought it would happen sooner than it did. That's why we didn't leave much in it. I need to find a way to rig up a game camera inside the cabin and conceal it really well. Might be able to catch them next time.

I have family near Ft Towsen and it's the same there (dont know where that is in relation to where you fellas are though)

My Brothers FIL bought a new 11k saw mill, had it out 2 weeks and some one stole the motor and linkage system, even had to tote the dam thing for a ways..

We were looking at some land in LeFlore County...

Will do a bit of research on area crime stats before making a commitment...

If your lucky and can speak to a GW, ask them too.

My mother had 60 acres up there, my brothers in laws have had several places over the years and poaching/trespassing was a problem on every place, less if you lived there, but then they will night hunt so.....

I hunt in Atoka and of course we also deal with the beautiful culture of Oklahoma trash. Trespassers hunting your property, propane tanks stolen off our trailer, trash dumped by the trailer load on our property. Even some of the civilized locals will state that there isn't anything but thieves, crooks, and junkies in that area. It's too bad that people have to be so absolutely useless and act as vermin in a place where the hunting is rather nice and property can be had without breaking the bank. Oklahoma just needs a good purge and population reduction. At the very least a state mandated sterilization program for its residents.

This crap goes on all over the South, not just OK. It is especially difficult with non res hunters, but most of us anyway are at least a few hours away from our hunting property. Game cams can help, but unless you have a resident land manager ther is really nothing you can do. These folks know when you are there, getting set up for season, they know when season is, and scout a bit during the week to make sure there is no activity. Then boom, break and take. After a couple of break ins in Texas I got to talking with the county Sheriff, and he said these crooks look for overhead power lines and a transformer. If there is a transformer, there is a camp or cabin. If they can see it from the road, and have cover, they are golden. On our new place we are fortunate enough to be over a mile from the county road and haven't had any thefts. But with Google Earth, any smart thief can still find your camp. I know guys that leave rifles and ATV at camp all fall, but to me that is just too much of a risk. What we've done is make friends with the cattle and oil guys, we watch their investment, and they watch ours. They are there everyday. Cattle guy has run off a trespasser before.

if you have electricity I would get a Simply Safe system for your cabin.
They use cell towers to call out and the sensors are all wireless
you just buy a system for about $200 and pay $20 month for service.

they have door and window sensors, freeze sensors, fire sensors, you name it they have it.
the system calls law enforcement and sends you a text message
or for some alarms, you can have it just send you a text message only.
it plugs into electric, but has a battery backup for several hours.
if thieves break in and then immediately smash the wireless hub, it's too late, it has already sent the alarm.

with all of the Mexicans, Guatemalans, Somalis, Syrians, Russians, Chinese, Nigerians, and everybody else crossing over the border into Texas, some of our remote camps are bound to be burglarized by them

You forgot the Germans, English, Scottish, Spaniards, French, Chinese, Japanese, Africans and thousands of other ethnic races INCLUDING YOU! that crossed a border to become us citizens! REMEMBER AMERICAN INDIANS ARE THE ONLY TRUE AMERICANS! THIS IS NOT OUR COUNTRY WE STOLE IT FROM THE INDIANS! I would bet you $1000 bucks it was probably "white" local HS kids and they knew exactly where the cabin was and what was in it! Racism is a sickness....

I have places in 4 states. My best advice is to hire a retired local that is close to your spot to do odd jobs and watch your place. It has been money well spent for me.
