Just make sure the person answering he door actually owns the land. Many renters like the extra cash until the actual land owner shows up!! It happens.

Gotta be careful and understand who you are dealing with.

Used to work some. Same with fishing the pond out back.
Before we became so litigious. Too many folks looking for easy money from a lawsuit.

We own some property. I wouldn't let someone I didn't know hunt or fish there.

Yes it works. Be respectful, offer help around the place, and be prepared to be told no.

I have lots of places to dove, duck, and deer hunt. Haven't ever leased in my 30yrs

Never said easy, but not impossible. I get told no a lot but it doesn't discourage me too much, after all I'm a stranger asking for access to private land.

Do's:
Use respect, firm handshake, eye contact, be honest-tell them exactly what your plans are, offer work - trash pick up fence mending, etc.

Don't's:
Don't wear flat billed hats or white sunglasses, ask to bring 30 people, use words like sup, bro, chillin, dude ect.

Worst they can say is no, even when that happens they are usually nice about it.

All the people I asked as a kid already knew me or my parents or Grandmother. Just about everybody knew everybody for a mile radius. Mainly cuz my Grandpa owned a heck of alot of land out in rural part of Alvin.

Both the private place I hunt were acquired by just asking. I offered $$ and help but they said I could just hunt it. After last season I bought one of the landowners a Jobes decoy for his study and the other a bottle of Turkey and a case of skoal...everyone was happy and I was welcomed back this year.
