This year I was selected for Gene Howe and Nannie Stringfellow archery hunts.
Has anyone hunted at either location? Any tips would be great.
Is it safe to assume that crossbows will be allowed on both hunts? Since they did not have a crossbow only drawn, like in the past.
Thanks,

I would call the area and ask the guy running the hunt. The ones I've been on WOULD NOT allow x-bows, even though they were legal during archery season!!

I would say it is safe to assume. They given no weapon restriction on any of the Archery drawn hunt descriptions and the three year study is over so there are no longer separate longbow/crossbow categories.

Congrats on the draw. I'm pending second draw too, hope I don't get drawn because my son is getting married on Oct 10. Re: Gene Howe, I've rifle hunted there 3 or 4 times. If you can get it, pick Middle pasture first, then either North or Persimmon. The deer feed on the farmland to the North and spend the day time on the WMA. I've seen over 200 deer feeding on the farmland. Those pastures on the WMA are nothing but sagebrush sand hills with plum thickets. There are a lot of draws and the deer use those as travel routes. Find a heavily used trail from the north fields onto the WMA and set up there. If it's cold and windy, the deer will be bedded on the south slopes in the plum thickets. There's a small bunch of cedar trees near the prairie dog town that are the only rubbing trees around and the bucks have those things torn up.. I've always limited out at Gene Howe. Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I guess I should take a ground blind and hope I can find a tree for a hang on.

The only trees (in the pastures I listed) are in Persimmon. I'd dig a hole to sit in and hide in the sagebrush. Might be able to set up ground blind in a plum thicket good luck, I've seen some nice bucks.

Ok today I talked with the folks at Gene Howe and Nannie Stringfellow both said all archery equipment is allowed, crossbows, compounds and stick/string.
