I recently sent in a Remington 700 for a warranty issue and they have decided to replace the rifle with a brand new one....only problem is the model is out of current production and they have none in stock of the caliber I want(.270win) so it will be October before they start production again. After thinking about it; I am hunting a lot less these days and have been scaling down the hunting rifles I own and will most likely sell the rifle when I get my new rifle in from Remington. So the question is......Which of these 2 options do you think will work out best since I'm looking to sell it upon return. 1. Wait until October and HOPE the rifle comes in before deer season in .270win? Rifle I sent in - http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-700/model-700-xcr-ii.aspx2. See if they will send me a similar rifle in .257Wby which I believe they currently have in stock?.....I used to have a .257wby and its an EXCELLENT caliber but do you think it will be hard to sell for a decent price going into deer season? .257wby RMEF model http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-700/model-700-xcr-ii-camo-rmef.aspx

I wouldn't wait until October. And I would get a more mainstream chambering right now. A 30-06, or 7 Rem Mag or 300 Win Mag if the larger chamberings are an option. Think about the guy that has to buy ammo and sell a rifle with lots of off the shelf ammo options.
I'm no quarter bore fan though. So my opinion is a bit skewed.

I would rather have a .257 Weatherby than a .270 anyday. But that is just me, awesome caliber and it is a limited run so it will hold it value better.

Not exactly.....The Remington web site says the .257wby is currently in production WRONG! In fact I called and asked if they had any other calibers available for the XCR II - NO they are all out of production until October Asked if they had a 700 CDL Stainless Fluted - NO out of production until November Asked if they had anything of a similar price point in stock that could be substituted.....NO

Remington has gone from the industry leader to worse than an after thought...what a shame!

What was the original issue? Curious for what issue they are willing to replace instead of repair.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

What was the original issue? Curious for what issue they are willing to replace instead of repair. 1. The finish was coming off. 2. The rifle was failing to extract the empty casing....which FYI this is the 3rd brand new in box Remington 700 that I have seen have extracting issues and its the 4th one that I have seen first hand(other 3 were friends rifles)that have had to be sent back to Remington .....all of which were replaced and not repaired. I believe that the profit margin on these rifles is enough; and cost of repairs are so high that they just replace them 90% of the time; I mean after all the MSRP on this particular rifle is $1,085.00......and if they are replacing it that quick and not trying to repair it, then the profit margin must be pretty high.

If they can send you the .257 immediately I would do that deal in a heartbeat.
