Firearms Safety Bulletin: 2014-01

To: WS Regions, State Directors, and NWRC
Date: August 19, 2014
Subject: PRODUCT SAFETY WARNING AND RECALL NOTICE REMINGTON MODEL 700TM AND MODEL SEVENTM RIFLES
X-Mark Pro® Triggers

PRODUCTS: Remington Arms Company, LLC (“Remington”) is voluntarily recalling Remington Model 700TM and Model SevenTM rifles with X-Mark Pro® (“XMP®”) triggers, manufactured from May 1, 2006 to April 9, 2014.

DESCRIPTION OF THE HAZARD: Remington has determined that some Model 700 and Model Seven rifles with XMP triggers could, under certain circumstances, unintentionally discharge. A Remington investigation has determined that some XMP triggers might have excess bonding agent used in the assembly process. While Remington has the utmost confidence in the design of the XMP trigger, it is undertaking this recall in the interest of consumer safety to remove any potential excess bonding agent applied in the assembly process.
(Entire recall notice is attached to this bulletin)

The WS Firearms Committee makes the following recommendations:
1. STOPusingthesefirearmsuntilyouhavedeterminedifyourrifleisincludedin this recall.

2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to
shoot.
3. Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

Wondering if Remington ought to sell rifles without a trigger and just let the customer install a safe one he likes? 2cents

8 years and now the defect is found??? Hard to believe that it took that long.

Or they see the news about the other big recalls out there that have caused deaths, namely the auto industry, and they got scared enough to call 'em back in.
