I have been looking at buying a new gun. I have lots of larger calibers but don't have one in .22-250 Remingtin.
I would like to hear y'all's thoughts.. I'm looking at maybe a Savage Axis with a heavy barrel???? Does anyone have one already?? Really looking for the gun to shoot fast and super accurate. Have about a $650.00 budget.
Thanks..

Savage is running rebates right now. 50.00 on axis and 75.00 on 111. go to their website for a complete list and details.

Academy had the 110/111 with a Nikon prostaff for $599. Much better value than the axis IMO.

Get a model 11 or 12, higher quality.

I shot mine at prairie dogs so much I wore out the barrel.

If you have $650 to spend, then don't go with the Axis. Get a used model 10 Predator or the model 12 Varminter. They come with the heavy barrel and are a significant upgrade over an Axis. There are a couple decent deals on gunbroker for .22-250's right now.

I can say the same thing. The model 12 in 22-250 with the 26" heavy barrel is a shooting machine. It is perfect for setting up on a bench and picking off prairie dogs! The one I have happens to be one of my favorite rifles and I'm not necessarily "a Savage fan"... If your looking for one to walk and hike with go with a lighter version. But all in all for a "budget rifle" they are hard to beat.

"Shooting machine" is no joke.

I have the 12 and with the factory barrel, 55 gr SGKs and 36.5 of Varget it would punch bitsy groups and had that bullet leaving at a blistering 3780 fps!

I recently got a model 11 prarie dog heavy barrel 22-250 from cabelas in Fort Worth for 400 and change. Has accutrigger and shoots really well with a night vision scope on it. Really like that gun.

They had several left in the "used " gun racks even though these were brand new, just being discontinued as they were a special run "cabelas exclusive"

Very true, Bud's had a used model 10 Predator Max last time I looked for $699.

Well, looks like I'm gonna be in the market for a model 11/12. Like the bull barrel. Guess I'm gonna have to get rid of a .270 to make room for the .22-250. Thanks for all the help guys !!!!!

I put in layaway a brand new Savage 12FV 22-250 for $530 with free shipping. I didn't think I could go wrong at that price.
