What horrible events might occur if I were to...

Attempt to seat 6.8 SPC bulltets into new brass with my .260 dies?

Or will it not even reach the seater ring?

I feel confident it would work if it's a Hornady seater die. I seated 6mm Creedmores with a 6.5Creedmore seater last week.Try it and see if it seats you are good to go.

You seated a small bullet using a larger bullet seater. He would be the other way round.

I don't think .277" will seat in a .264" seater. But I'm speculating.

Probably won't even reach. Major risk is misalignment.

I have .260 dies (RCBS)and lots of 6.8 brass so I tried it.... works fine. You may not be able to get full seating depth if using shorter/lighter bullets if you were trying to seat short. I am sure you can seat short of the lands though.
