The wife and I are planning a trip in October to East Texas to ride the Texas State RR and plan to stay at the Palestine RV Park. Where are the best eats in Palestine?

Thanks for the suggestion rifleman................. but I wasn't planning one taking my tuxedo on this trip. I'm sure they got very good food but looks a little too fancy for my taste.

Lol, being in Palestine it's more of a business casual kinda place with fancy table clothes & menus.
Favorite place used to be the Ranch House, but last time we went through they had shut down.

I like El Toro too.
Used to be a BBQ place called Baby J's out on 84 about 2 miles on the left towards Elkhart that was good. DK if it's still there.

I'm pretty sure Baby J's is closed for good now. Even when it was open for business, its hours were undependable. I always liked the Q there, however. Shep's is pretty darn good and is always open.

Little Mexico is pretty darn good and probably the most popular place in Palestine. Village seafood is also good if you want fish. If you want a fast food type place Chips burgers is alright.

There's no great place to eat in Palestine. El Toro is about as good as your going to get for dinner or the Chinese Buffet is ok. I lived on Lake Palestine for 5 years and there is no great place to eat in the area. Whatever you do don't go to that dump at a hospital they have there. In case of emergency drive to Tyler. They almost killed my wife when my oldest son was born. My wife had scars that looked like the work was done with a hack saw and her anesthesia was delivered incorrectly.

There's really not much in palestine in the way of good eats. If you find something I'm all ears.

Shep's Bar-B-Q & Catering Services
1013 E Palestine Ave, Palestine, TX Probably the worst BBQ you will find in Palestine. I like Bruce, but he doesn't even use wood. Gas pit. Canned vegetables. Rump's or Bishop's BBQ are much better. Little Mexico is a good recommendation for family TexMex. No alcohol. That usually drives people to El Toro. I find service at El Toro to be atrocious but Little Mexico far superior. Switch is our favorite place in town. We used to like Denby's but it has gone way, way down hill. We also like Giovanni's. It is not the best Italian in the world but it's decent, good bread, good salad, good service. The Ranch House is closed for good. I saw someone mention it. Don't waste your time. If you like pan-Asian / hibachi style dinners, Asian City is okay. It's a much cheaper alternative to the big city versions. PM me if you want more recommendations.

I second switch. I grew up in Palestine, went home last weekend to fill feeders and shoot at some dove, we ate at Little Mexico and El Torro, both were still good

Thanks of all your suggestions, we ate at El Tore Saturday evening and enjoyed it. We took the recommendation of a lady at the Visitors Bureau and got a burger and drinks at a new place in town called Pint and Barrel brew pub. Really good burger and fries, great music and atmosphere, outdoor dining area, darts boards, we enjoyed it a lot.
