I hunt a lot of public land in Oklahoma, but I figured this question would hold true for private land also for the most part.
So can you describe the area you have shot your biggest buck in? I never had a clean shot last year, but saw the biggest buck I've seen hunting in a while. There was the tip of a lake north about 200 yards, a skinny field about 10 acres with a few random trees, and then thick woods after that. It was at first light I think he was coming from the lake area north and heading to bed south in the thick stuff. The grass was probably 3 ft high at the time being Oct 1 and he saw me first, walking away before I could ever draw.
I know with feeders and food plots some of y'all have that might be your best hunting area, but if you weren't set up on them where else have you seen mature bucks at.

If you're depending on trex then you'd be better off to give up hunting.
There were pines.

Chasing a doe and he was standing partially behind a Post Oak in thick Yaupon on the back side of a tank, 218 yards away.

raking a persimmon tree at the edge of a field about 80 yards away from my blind.
only exposed area was about a 8" circle of shoulder, but that was enough to slip a bullet thru.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Well pad road about a half mile in length with a just a bit of a draw in the middle that had some thick brush and a drainage that fed a nearby tank. Had been feeding that stretch of road for a couple months and there were a bunch of deer always on it within ten mins of corning the road. Was kinda like shooting fish in a barrel. Stalked to about 150 yards and dropped him in his tracks with a high shoulder shot.

It was at a small pond out in the middle of a clear cut. They left the trees and underbrush around it so there was good cover to make the deer feel safe in there.

Military installation in a funnel/pinch point. 100 yard-wide strip of east-west timber with a drop zone to the north and a state highway to the south. November 12, 1:30 pm, right after it quit raining. It had been raining for about 36 hours before it stopped.

Right in the middle of the sendero eating corn.
Big, old buck.
Sometimes it's best not to over think it.

Big wheat field surrounded by mesquites, surrounded by cotton fields. Sounds a lot like where I killed my biggest. Mine was in Childress.

Well that wasn't very nice at all... Biggest antlered buck was out of a blind in a valley. Watched him come down the ridge from about 600 yards away. Almost didn't make it before dark. Biggest deer I have missed is in the same stand I killed my biggest bodied deer to date. There is a draw that comes out of grass land and splits a corn field and brom grass field. The tree line is about 50 yards wide with a small creek down the middle. I am set up on the intersection of the draw and treed fence line. Probably my favorite stand.

It was opening day last fall. I was sitting on the toilet reading the newspaper when I look out the bathroom window and see the biggest darn deer i've ever laid eyes on. He's standing accross the street eating the neighbor's crape myrtle. So I immediately think "I've gotta get wiped and get my gun". So i reach for the toilet paper.....NONE!!! GEEZ....can't somebody replace the roll after I empty it??? Ok...think! Aha!...Open the vanity cabinet to get a new roll.....EMPTY!!! Well now I'm in a pickle. I know there's a roll in the front bathroom but I can't go running throught he house like this. So what can I do? I yell for my wife! "Honey.......bring my my rifle!" Now you might think she'd be a little taken aback and wonder why I need my rifle in the bathroom. Nope! She just figures I've seen another deer in the neighbor's yard so she comes running with it. She hands me the gun and says "Open the window this time!" So I throw open the window, level the cross hairs on the deer and BANG!! I drop him with a clean pass through shot...right in his tracks. So I yell for the wife again..."Bring me some TP!!! And call Jerry accross the street and tell him I'm sorry about shooting out his garage window again. Ask him not to call the cops this time cause I think they might be getting tired of coming out here." With that I clean myself up, pull up my drawers and head accross the street to claim my trophy. He's a monster. A solid 4 pointer. He'd score easly in the 65-70 range. Man he's gonna look great on the wall next to that little one I killed last year!

Mine was far down a long, corned, south Texas sendero (408 yards), through extremely thick mixed brush of mesquite, white brush, black brush, guajillo, huisache, etc.
What's more important is that it was post rut and this was the first time that this deer had come to corn. In fact, nearly all of my biggest bucks were taken post rut, and never frequented feeders prior to that.

About a 5 acre clearing that butts up to a cross fence running N/S. Thick live oaks and mesquites for several hundred acres all around me. about 400 yeards north of me and think stuff a filed of hay grazer or wheat on neighboring property. The travel the N/S fence and stage up in my area. coming and going to the field north of me. Its a honey hole. Killed my #1,2 and 3 deer from the same stand over the years.

I guess the oldest and widest I have taken, was at the crest of a gulley on the edge of a mesquite flat with a hot doe. Sterling city.

I shot my biggest at a feeder I had been watching a small buck and a doe for an hour and decided to see what they would do if I blew the grunt call, the small buck started running in circles, in a few seconds big daddy walked out.
I SAW my 2 biggest near Sheffield Tx They were both in little draws at the foot hills of "mountains".
