I decided to go with the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP for my 6.5 Creed. I have 2 questions. Which reticle, would be best EBR-1MOA or EBR-2C MOA? Since it is being a FFP scope would the cross hairs cover up a 2 inch circle at 300 yards if I had the scope on 24 power ? Where I live I'm not able to get my hands on one so any info would be great.

The EBR1 will cover .54 moa at 300yds. That's a little more than half an inch.
The EBR2c is thinner. Covers .3 moa at 300.

I suggest you go to a Mil reticle and quit thinking about inches.

Why go ffp if you are just target shooting at short range?

~ 1 MOA at 300y is 3" so it will cover a little more than 1.5" for the first one and a little over 3/4" on the 2nd one.

At 100y Hutch's number are dead on.

Nothing wrong with thinking inches if that is how you think or how your hunting buddies talk. Don't be talked into a MIL unless you run with a MIL crowd.

My 2 cents.

Can't think in inches. Scopes don't show inches or any other linear measurements. They show angular, and I know you know this.

FFP is the only way to go. MOA sucks, Mils are better.

It's not. It is a "ford vs chevy" argument. Both are equal just a different measurement. As long as you keep the reticle subtensions matching the turrets you will be good to go.

Dee is right keep them matching is priority one. He, Judd, and Chad are three guys I know that like MOA, and I enjoy picking on them. I know three hundred that like Mils.

Mils are in tenths. They are easier to multiply and divide. Look at a DOPE chart in MOA particularly the windage and look at one in Mils. You will see that the Mil chart is easier to remember.

Mils is ONE syllable.
MOA is THREE...which is 3x as complicated... grin

Mil for the win.

I get the guys who deal with MIL and talk MIL....if you deal in a lot of spinning of your turrets I'll even admit it's probably easier.

But the average guy who hangs out here on the THF is not going to take the time to learn the MIL system. Therefore, MOA is better for those because they know inches. I'd venture to say that 99% of the deer guides and deer camps in Texas don't know MIL. You pull up and range the deer at 250 yards...you shoot and miss...the guide isn't going to say you missed 3 MIL right wink

That is why I suggest MOA to folks. I shoot benchrest stuff and there isn't a MIL scope in the bunch...if there is I know he's already lost grin In the tactical crowd they deal in MIL, if I shot that I'd be a MIL guy but I still wouldn't recommend it to the vast majority here.

Tactical shooting is hunting shooting. Wind, various distances, split second decisions. Dial elevation if you have time or hold elevation and wind if you need to act fast.

Someone post their windage in MOA, and I will respond with mine in Mil.

Make it a 5 mph wind at 90 degrees to the shot.

This is my mk load the Amax load is less but this is the current load I'm trying out. It's pretty easy in this wind just add 1/2 MOA
From 400 on and you will hit steel.

Perfect, dee!

Now for the on-lookers, dee's numbers have to be rounded to the nearest quarter.

Double the wind, double that value. 45 the angle half the value. So on and so forth.

You make a good point about needing to be rounded. I round to the nearest half for most application. If utmost in precision like target shooting then yes 1/4 round is what needs to be.

You're right...MIL is essentually already dealing in halves wink

J - you still didn't address the guide or shooting with buddies. You shoot and miss your buddies says 3 MILS left, you adjust and hit your target. If you are shooting with someone who doesn't know MIL (like 90% of the people on this board) and they say 4" left what is the MIL scoped guy to do? A conversion in their head, which is fine but 90% of the guys don't know it.

Oh and for the record 67.8% of all percentages are just made up but you get the point I'm trying to make...buy what people you shoot with/hunt with talk, it just makes your life easier and most guys on here are lucky to burn a box of shells a year. You're "target" audience isn't here for your MIL preaching, move along now grin

NEVER will I give up!!! You will not run me off, mister.

Your argument is invalid. Not a scope out there sees inches, feet, yards, meters, or centimeters. Those are linear measurements. Scopes see angular measurements MOA, or Mil. I see a miss in mils I correct in Mils. I see a miss in MOA, I correct in MOA. I could care less how big the target is in inches or how much I missed in inches. That's not the subtensions of the ruler in my scope.

Come at me! We've been at this for years and it's still fun.

The thing I don't care for is most of the small subtensions on mil reticle are .5 or bigger. That is a large chunk of real estate on the scale. Granted my moa is 2 per subtensions on my windage side but there are several with smaller.

You saying it lives at .5 Mil? Or is .5 Mil thick? Cuz it aint that thick, so I bet you meant the first one.

It's pretty easy to judge .1 .2 .3 .4 or .6 .7 .8 .9 About an hour with it and you'll have it down.

HAHAHA...we'll most spotters that don't play in your world call in linear measurements and it isn't metric unless you are in a different country wink

Yes where it resides on the reticle is what I was referring to. I'm sure it would be easy adjusted to but it just seems like a big jump.

Judd that's right. The metric system didn't get anyone to the moon. Merica flag

The only thing metric about it is it's in tenths. 1/10 versus 1/8 or 1/4.

Different fraction that wait for it..........happens to be what we learned as the Dewey Decimal System in the third grade.
