If budget was not an option, which remington 700 would you get? Mountain ss? Sendero? VTR? I'm looking for some honest feedback with your experience. I'm almost deadset on a 25-06, but can't decide which model to get. I hunt on 84,000 acres and most of my hunting is done from a truck as we kill about 250 does a year and 200 cow elk a year. What would you recommend?

If you want a Rem 700 buy a donor rifle and build a custom from it. Keep the stock and bottom metal it came with or change those too. You get a cut rifled barrel and have a smith do the machining. Very few factory rifles will shoot inside it.

I'd recommend having me come and help you put some of that meat on the ground!

Honestly look at the ads for all the stores. Around this time I got an adl .270 with a decent scope for $350 from cabelas. couple years laters its got a vortex and new stock but it was a shooter out of the box I only changed the items because I wanted to make it even better.

I have three 700's, two BDL's (.243 & 25-06) both are nail drivers. Last year I bought .270 model 700 in the CDL. I do not have it dialed in yet, because I like to "Chutem in the ear" and am not afraid of missing. My 25-06 has killed mule deer, no telling how many whitetail & hogs. My CDL has killed everything I have shot at but I am still trying to get it dialed in as I said.
I like each one so much that they will never be traded or sold, end of discussion. I do like the BDL finish the best, which is abnormal in this day and age of "tupperware" guns. There is just something magic about wood, anything else is just a gun. I know that is contrary to the ordinary but when you can clover three shots at a 100 yards thats good enough for me. With the accuracy in machining and the optics we have today many say there is no challenge left in gun hunting, I disagree the challenge is knowing exactly where the bullet is going.

5R if buying a Remington

If $ is no worry, get a Cooper M52 or a Nosler 48.

Most of the R700 are are the same except for the stock (5R is the main exception)

I would go custom or buy one and have it rebarreled

Where do you hunt 131 square miles? And how do you kill over state limits?

MLD permits would be my guess. There are lots of members of the THF that hunt and work on MLD properties that would surprise you at the numbers of deer they kill.

I'd have something built. I'd opt for something other than a .25-06 though. For elk it'd be a magnum. Probably 300 win or 7 mag. The 5r 300 mag is a really good factory gun.

Weatherby's are pretty awesome. But hey, if you are dead set on Remington then the Mountain SS.

For a stock 700 with no budget....would look at the AWR II or North American Custom.

I'd buy one and shoot it and see how it groups. If its not to your expectations, then you'll have a good action to build off of.

Stock CDL out of the box. Put a good scope, mounts and rings on it and enjoy. It will do all that you ask of it.

^^^^^This.

I'd also add a Sako 85 Finnlight to the list. Or as someone else said, build a custom.

Sps or bdl in 257wby

Butttt for a cull rifle, 25-06 and 257wby are overbores meaning limited barrel life.

I love my 257wby and 25-06 but I'm not going to be running 400-500 plus round a year through them.

I'd have horizon firearms build you a 6.5 creed off a remington action

That 5R is something worth looking into. Does anyone know where i could look at one in DFW, theres so many remington dealers but i don't think many would carry this model.

Remington 700 5R is worth looking into

I have one
has heavy, tactical, adjustable Bell & Carlson stock is heavy and solid

that rifling mirrors what Rem does for sniper use, has better gas seal for consistent results

it's my thermal hunting gun so I don't do a lot of load development with it
At the range breaking in, I can do 1/4, 1/2" groups consistently with
Varget, Lapua case, 155gr HP Lapua
i put EGW Pic rail base on mine for thermal mount

i do recommend it as a target, long range hunting rifle

If you are interested in purchasing one , PM me

Just curious but why not the .260 Rem caliber?

My 5R has an HS Precision stock. Did some come with a bell and carlson?
