I have one on my 06 and it works as advertised, but the chart from Browning has not proved very close with my rifle. You can chew through a bunch of ammo getting it dialed in and results may vary from lot to lot for any specific load, though I find they stay close enough for most hunting situations. My a-bolt does not care much for 150gr factory loads at up to 2.5 MOA, but I have significantly improved group sizes with tuning to 1-1.5 MOA. 165gr and 180gr loads tend to shoot well regardless of the BOSS setting at around 1-1.5 MOA, but still tighten up with tuning to .75-1 MOA. My hand loads are tuned with a fixed setting on the BOSS and shoot around .75 MOA. Playing with the tuning has not improved that any. I keep a log of what BOSS settings and the offset from my normal zero is for various factory loads just in case I run off and leave my ammo at home.

Does it work- yes. But it will take a lot of ammo to figure out the settings to dial in the accuracy. What the boss does is tune the barrel harmonics to the ammo. This allows you to shoot a factory load in a bullet that you want, and tune the barrel to the ammo. It just takes a lot of time and ammo to dial it in. I played with one on a Browning M1000 target model in 300 WM. It worked a little. But I was able to dial in the accuracy better with my custom ammo tuned for that rifle.
If you reload, you develop the test loads, and dial the ammo to the barrel. It's opposite. I prefer this way, as it's much easier and quicker.

You can buy a replacement for the brake that is not a brake but duplicates the weight of the brake, and you can supposedly use the same BOSS settings with it. I bought one from Midwest Gun Works (I think) several years ago. I know of no other place to find it.

What Chad said.
Hand loading replaces the need for their system. Do you hand load?

I copied this a while back from a post on another forum. IIRC, the guy who posted it claimed to be the former chief testing engineer for Browning. It has worked well for me.
With the system set at mid point, fire a carefully aimed 3 shot group. Adjust the weight 1/4 turn in either direction and fire another group of 3 shots. Compare the results. If the group is smaller, (if the group opens up, go in the other direction) continue in 1/4 turn increments until you reach optimum. The groups will open up again if you adjust past the optimum. It's important let the rifle cool between groups.
That's the procedure I followed in determining starting points for the system. All testing was with commercial ammo, in a 100 yard tunnel with VERY good optics. After a short time, no one got very excited at any groups that were not sub 1/4". I recall one group that was .0029, right, 29 thousandths of an inch, but it must be remembered this was done under optimal conditions with high quality optics.

One thing you have to understand about the BOSS system is that it can and MUST be calibrated, otherwise the charts that come with it will be meaningless. I think I have the info in my files someplace. If anyone needs it I'll see if I can dig it up.

Had one for a while, tuning was not the issue, played with it and got 1/2 inch group from the Pet ammo for my other 7mm-08. Problem it was LOUD, shot a deer one morning without ear protection and left ear rang for 3 days. That was the last time I shot that rifle. Sold it to help fund an elk hunt.

I have one in a 7 mag. I took a hot fast load and then tuned the barrel to shoot it in the same hole. It was a little bit of work but its a great gun. I also did away with the muzzle break and purchased the one without the brake. After that it was a dream to shoot. I doubt I would ever get rid of mine.

I have one on a Win Model 70 300 WM.
It may take a little playing around to find the exact spot to tune your barrel to your ammo like chad mentioned, but it's not that bad. There are published "general suggestions" for each weight bullet for good results that help you find where to start. For my rifle, the standard starting place printed sub- 1/2 MOA groups at 100, so I had zero reason to tune anything.
The additional advantage is that it significantly reduces recoil, which is great in a 300.
The only disadvantage is the added noise.

Oh yeah, I don't have the CR (Conventional Recoil) piece. I only use the muzzle break type BOSS.

I bought one from Midwest Gun Works (I think) several years ago. I know of no other place to find it. You can get one direct from Browning. Mine was around $40 IIRC. I am a reloader. I didn't buy my Browning because of the BOSS, but I wouldn't shy away from owning another one. This was with the Browning's recommended setting - no tuning necessary...

You're right...when I went shopping for a CR, it was for a Model 70, it's a different item and no longer available from Winchester, at least not directly. Had to go to MGW.
