Looking for a place for spring turkey season, I would like to join a deer lease also but most importantly am looking for a place to turkey hunt in the spring. Limits would be anywhere 6 or so hours from Houston but would go as far as Fort Cobb, Ok for the right deal. I can fill feeders or help with general work if it helps you out. Would really like to find a place with w some sort of lodging on site (can be in very rough shape or even a barn), I would also need to be able to bring a guest (brother). I’ll more than likely be heading to SC after next year and have plenty to offer over there, perhaps in the future we could work out a swap.

You will be very lucky to find a turkey lease for anything less than $1000 for the spring season, keep trying sometimes deer hunters realize that it is better to sub lease for 5 or 6 hundred bucks that can go towards next seasons deer corn than it is to just sit back and not hunt turkeys....

Plenty for less than that and def plenty for less than $650/bird. Texas public land has plenty to offer. Did it last year w success and very capable of doing it again, however I would like to have a small cabin of sorts

Trash2 I beg to differ! 90% of the land owners and deer lease holders here in Texas have all figured out that turkey hunting is becoming almost as popular and profitable as deer hunting! I have lived & hunted here in Texas for 18 years and the prices have risen every year for last 12 years! I use no less than 8 different message boards and have numerous contacts across north & east Texas. The going rate for season lease for turkey regardless of acreage is around $800 to $1500 dollars for 10 weeks of access. The adverage price for a guided hunt for two birds is also running $750 to $1500 for a two day hunt. Are there some deals out there? Sure but you will be hard pressed and very lucky to find them! For those of us that can't afford those prices draw hunts and public land are the only option. Yes there are good populations of birds on public land but you have to do your research and find those out of the way places that other hunters won't go to find them.....

hey trash2,
I wouldn't classify it as a cabin, but my place has a roof, walls, electricity and there is running water outside. the other option is a hay barn with no water or electricity nearby.

I prefer the morning mainly because you typically hear more and it's nice to see nature wake up. However I've probably had equal success throughout the day with 9-11 probably being my most successful times

One great thing about Turkey hunting is I don't have to get up at 5 AM to get set up. Camp is pretty close to my favorite spot so I can ease out there at first light. Only thing time of day really does for me is make me anticipate where the birds will be since they roam around, but I know pretty well where they are coming from in the AM and heading back to in the PM. I've had luck just hitting them whenever the conditions are good. Wind and weather are more of an issue for me than time of day.

If you go early you may see what kind of deer are showing up. Lots of birds killed between 8 and 11. Get a call and learn how to use it.
