Nothing like wild quail. period.
Least favorite- pheasant. Best way to cook it is in the trash can.
Actually, crock pot or chicken fried not bad- we smoked some in SD few years ago in bacon- was good

Ruffed Grouse hands down, Pheasant/Chukar/Huns/Quail next and Prairie Chicken is dead last. I also like Dove, duck and goose, as I have acquired the taste. I put Sandhill Crane between quail and dove....kind of where I have Wild Turkey. Although, Crane eats more like a red steak and less like bird.

I've been eating a lot of crow lately, so I must like it.

I love a good duck or goose with andouille gumbo as long as the birds are rendered first. I also love dove but you'll starve to death eating those little bastards. Quail is delicious but we have so few around here when I do get a few covies around the place I have too much fun "talking to them" in the evening off the back porch to hunt them. Sandhill Crane is probably my favorite eating bird, but can no longer hunt them on my place. We see tons of them but are just inside their protected zone.

pheasant and quail are my favorites, nothing better imo than when I visit family in KS and we grill up some pheasant and quail after a long day of hunting.

All of the above are my favorite s too but did anybody ever know that in Germany the grey heron was special? Only if a king had a banquet they would serve it.... There are still ways to find out about preparing such a bird. Funny Germans

I've never made that mistake again.

Everybody talking about how good dove are, then they cover it in bacon...c'mon, if it was that good, it shouldn't need bacon. Although I dove love bacon with a hint of dove too.

Or they have never eaten chicken fried turkey breast. Roll some thinly sliced or beaten turkey breast in bread crumbs and fry in in a little olive oil.... You'll never convince me dove is better than that!!! I do like dove but can't come close to wild turkey or quail.

Light- Quail, pheasant
Dark- Snipe, dove
And I promise you'll not be able to tell the difference between snipe and dove (prepared Texas style) but snipe could be slightly better. Bet dat!!

Coot go well in a gumbo but, it's tough to beat a smoked dove breast wrapped in bacon.

I haven't had quail in 20 years....but I remember it being good, and I have been raising 40 bobwhites in a run and they're about 20 weeks now....I have too many males, and courting is about to start, so this week I'm going to knock off a few males and hopefully find out that quail is my favorite!
