Make sure your fences are good and don't let your billies get near any other type of sheep. I have thought about hitting the auction and looking for a couple old billies. Barbado eat pretty well too.

Blackbuck Antelope usually will not jump any type fence, unless they are in a total panic situation.

We have more trouble with axis bucks fighting free ranging ones through the fence and tearing holes in it. We lose some and gain some. I guess it all works about even.

Kind of depends on the volume your buying.
I would not bother putting does out there unless u just want to do meat hunts. I would buy about 15 spike bucks or a mix with two year olds and let them get some age on them. Then hunt them. If your looking at hunting them right away I would look at buying 3 year olds in that mix. Those would be anywhere from 24"-28" in horn length typically and run about $700 ea. depending on how many your buying.
If your going to have a sheep out there I would not recommend any type of antelope species like the blackbuck or the scimitar horned oryx. Fallows' would go nice with rams in the same pasture.

u must have saved alot of allowance to be able to purchase a herd of sheep!
axis will make short work of a 6 foot fence, they just have to have a reason to jump it. we bought 38 of them, a mix of bucks and does, about 7 years ago. we have about 65-70 of them now, they do well with whitetail as far as we can see, although there noctournal nature and penchant for brush makes them a tough hunt
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Also Hamilton Commission Company has a hair sheep sale three times a year,(4/18, 9/19, and 11/21 in 2009) and a Horn sheep sale three times a year. (1/24, 3/28, 10/10/09) www.hamcommco.comThe reasons you don't want to let wool sheep rams breed with your hair sheep ewes are, 1)many wool sheep are polled (no horns) (some hair sheep, kahtadin and dorper come to mind, but those are meat sheep and you probably wouldn't be buying them anyway) 2) Wool sheep taste like the lanolin they have in their wool. Woolie Lamb is fine; but let the animal (ewe OR ram) get more than a couple of years old, and you have greasy, STRONG flavored mutton. I have raised hair sheep (painted deserts) for many years and i can tell you that even 5 or 6 year old uncastrated rams do not taste gamey. We are outside of Ft worth. I have 3 young rams for sale (2008 models), 2 painted deserts and one blackbelly barbado. Lora/Campcook
