Venison is leaner than beef. We eat deer regularaly, I grind a lot of it with beef fat into hamburger and make burgers and tacos with it. Can't tell the difference that way.

White tail Backstraps and tenderloins make realy good steaks but flavorwise you can't beat a good ribeye on the grill.

In that case they just say they wouldn't have known if I didn't tell them. Just last week I brought in my version of pulled pork (made from a 40# wild pig). The next day went to Papa's BBQ with a coworker who eats lots of pork. He ate a half the pork po'boy from Papa's and told me the one I made was better. If a city boy likes wild game better than Papa's it must have been pretty good. Deer guisada is one of the office favorites. They still don't know it's deer.

I wont argue venison is dang good meat, but I also don't see how someone can argue that it is "better" than beef in a tenderness/juicy way either. Love venison guisada but it will never come out how guisada made with beef or domestic pork does. Feral pulled pork is about the closest I have ever seen that compares wild and farm raised meat.

Feed your deer more corn and don't let them walk so much. smile Dang! I'm hungry, now wish I had some deer left. Steam is your friend when making deer guisada.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Hands down beef is better. Venison is great but has to be cooked as any "low end" beef cut... Beef is "naturally" more flavorful.. its all in the FAT!

Beef without a doubt
Most venison is nasty until you cover it up with a marinade or fry

USDA Choice or Higher grain fed Beef!

I'll take a ribeye or a t-bone anyday over anything that grows on a deer.

I dont know how much better beef is, as far as a steak with great marbling beef wins by a mile. But I have not bought groung beef in years, all we eat is venison, sometimes mixing in some ground pork for things like marinara sauce or meatloaf.
Cant forget chicken fried
Venison tenderloin cooked rare/med rare is wonderful.
I am referring to whitetail in general, but as most will admit axis is the best of the venisons

I don't eat beef unless its in a restaurant, or unless we're cooking steak or brisket or something of that sort. the majority of what we eat is deer meat. we don't eat ground beef.

not that I don't like the flavor, beef is good. but I also very much enjoy my venison and it is much better for you. I read somewhere once that free range venison was around 1-2% fat content. which is WAY less than even lean quality beef. and is less than even chicken breast.

For 100 bucks, I'll take you for a ride down the back roads here, late at night. You can have anything we hit. You'll get your money's worth.

I ain't too proud to pass up fresh hit roadkill venison. I give a GW a phone call, have them check the situation out and more often than not give you wildlife resource permission slip. I hate to see stuff go to waste when you know it was a fresh hit.

Yeah, most people don't know that can be done. Of course, most will also be disappointed when the GW saws off the antlers and keeps them.

I wasn't touching that buck. He wasn't so fresh. (I didn't hit him.)

I also hate to waste, but I've seen few roadkill deer that were what I would call "cleanly killed" they're pretty bruised up. but if someone wants to eat them.....more power to them.

elk is excellent eating. I would love to go hunt up a cow elk or two. a bull would be cool, but I'm not spending the money to raise the ceiling of my house to accommodate the antlers. I would be perfectly fine with the meat alone.

I've also heard moose is very good, along with some of the large African antelopes like nilgi and stuff like that. but I've never tried any.

Why the hell does it have to be either or? I eat a variety of meat Beef, Venison, Pork, Lamb and Bison are the most common, each is unique and needs to be appreciated for what it is, variety is the spice of life.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I eat my kill because I feel guilty if I don't. That being said it ain't even close to beef. Been hunting for almost 50 years and cooked it every way known to man. Fry the backstrap and grind the rest to make tolerable sausage. If you spend a fortune buying Boston butts to mix it about 60/40 it comes out pretty good. Hamburger is OK if you grind in 30% rib eye trim.

I too eat the deer and hogs I kill, but you can't beat a grain fed Longhorn steer.

Nothing wrong with longhorns. I've had Holstein steaks that were delicious. They aren't marketed as beef cattle because they don't fill out like standard beef breeds do, but they taste the same.

Not saying they taste bad, but when you start a sentence with "you can't beat" and that sentence is about the flavor of beef, one doesn't typically end the statement with anything about a longhorn.

I've eaten spent chickens that tasted great. But you can certainly beat them.

You can beat any meat, I guess. Beef is beef.
