I think ground venison is right up there with any hamburger meat I've ever eaten. Choice cuts of beef are superior for steaks.

Nothing wrong with either one. A properly taken care of and corn fed deer can be very good eating. For about 10 years that is all I ate was venison every day.

I have not had beef in my house for more than 5 years now. Strictly game - fish and venison, with the odd chicken bought here and there. My blood cholesterol has SIGNIFICANTLY lowered with no other change in diet.
Don't miss beef at all.
Now "venison" is a broad term. I eat mostly axis, and it can be compared very favorably against beef. Venison also includes blackbuck, oryx, Nilgai, addax, eland, elk, red deer, etc. All of it is good, and better gir you then store beef.
Some of these types of venison I defy you to distinguish from beef on the plate.

Beef fat tastes good. Deer fat is pretty damn gross. Venison makes up 90% of my meat intake, but there is no replacement for a good porterhouse.

I like my deer meat, but anyone that says it's better than beef has some fried taste buds. Elk is pretty close, though.

When I cook deer I don't expect it to taste like beef. Same as when I cook beef I don't try to compare it with deer. Every animal has it's own taste as table fare and that's the way I prefer it. It's like comparing apples to oranges. I love them all but as far as tender nothing compares with lamb.

If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

As far as meat. 80% of everything we eat is venison. If I had an option I would eat more beet but with all of the chemicals these days being fed and injected in beef, venison is more healthy for me to eat. If I had land and could raise my own beef it would probably be different story. When I do buy beef I get it from the same guy that process my deer. I am told it is range fed beef, but you never know for sure.

Beef by a landslide.
I have had any of the exotics people are always raving about though.
How about those compared to beef?

How about those compared to beef? Ill go with this. Ive had axis and I prefer white tail over axis any day. To me axis tasted very comparable to audad.

I haven't found anybody who could tell the difference between wild game or store bought meat after I've cooked it up. I make sure to keep everything in good condition from harvest to processing and I process it all myself.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I cook a lot, I make some dang tasty stuff, but venison has a different texture and fat content than beef, feral pork is good, but it is also very different from domestic pork.

People around me know what's good and don't care one way or the other. Most people and even people that are eating a meal with me for the first time don't try to compare it with anything unless I tell them it's wild game. In that case they just say they wouldn't have known if I didn't tell them. Just last week I brought in my version of pulled pork (made from a 40# wild pig). The next day went to Papa's BBQ with a coworker who eats lots of pork. He ate a half the pork po'boy from Papa's and told me the one I made was better. If a city boy likes wild game better than Papa's it must have been pretty good. Deer guisada is one of the office favorites. They still don't know it's deer.

Venison every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I can't tell you the last time I went out to eat and bought a steak at a restaurant. Can't beat a mesquite grilled venison steak.
I'd take dove over anything though.... How much longer until September 1st????

I wont argue venison is dang good meat, but I also don't see how someone can argue that it is "better" than beef in a tenderness/juicy way either. Love venison guisada but it will never come out how guisada made with beef or domestic pork does. Feral pulled pork is about the closest I have ever seen that compares wild and farm raised meat.
