colt45 - not really. I go to KS to hunt pheasants. I hunt private land and we move 2-3 coveys a day. There are a couple of plum thickets and tree lines that hold quail. I run my inexperienced dogs on them.

safari - I haven't seen any turkeys on the place around Childress. They are in the area. I just haven't seen them. I'm loaded up around Abilene. We are you in MO? My wife has an uncle near Chamois that I deer hunt on every year. Here is a pic of a deer I shot this past Nov on his farm. I also took a 15 pointer there 3 years ago.

What the heck!! My property is just east of Chamois near Drake over in Gasconade County off HWY 50. The 4 point antler restrictions are really helping out...do you agree?

I will get a quail report from a customer/friend from SC Kansas in the next day or so. SC is supposed to be the best quail area in KS.

On our place outside of Junction, we have noticed a lot more bobwhites this year than any in the recent past. We have seen coveys coming to the feeders and at watering holes. It might be that we are just on an up cycle with the birds in places that in the past have been on a down cycle.

BenBob, what has your rainfall been like?

Pretty much non-existent since the last of the summer. Driving anywhere on our place right now raises a heck of a dust cloud. WHen the feeders go off, it looks like someone shooting a machine gun when the corn hits the ground. We had very few mornings with much dew during deer season.

Do any of you know anything about quail/pheasant surrogator's? Do they work well or is it a bunch of BS?
I saw them advertised on a pheasants forever show I think.
Its interesting reading anyway. Be interested if any of you know anyone that has used thes with good or bad results.

I would agree with you, but then I would be wrong too.
